what is weakest mix you have used for shingles ? I am new to the service and have done 8 roofs with great results and happy customers. I have only had to make one pass on each roof.  Thanks for the help. You guys are great and very helpful. Planning on becoming a Premium member soon.

Everyones Sodium Hypochlorite is different, but we have cleaned with 20 percent. We are usually up at 25 to 30 percent for shingle roofs, but we get some very fresh stuff.

If you are not touching up from 15 to 25 percent of a shingle roof on a second pass, your mix is a little stronger then needed.  This costs you money, plus it is harder on plants.

OK, steep roofs you often are lucky to get one shot, so it must clean the first time. I am talking about regular pitch shingle roofs

My SH is very fresh. My supplier calls me when he gets a load in. We have alot of steep roofs here in NC so I think I am using to much BC-MAO surfactant. How much should I use for 5o gallons ?  Chris, I hope and pray things go well for your son.

That sounds like a lot, try cutting back to 1 cup, unless roofs are super steep.

Yes, you are up near 40 percent now at 18 gallons per 50 gallons mix. I would drop down to 15 gallons. It should clean nearly the same, it will just take a little longer to see results, and will have less effect on plants.

I will try it a little bit weaker. Most roofs in my area are 12/12 pitch or 10/12 pitch, that is why I used a little more surfactant. It has not rained here in about a week and a half. Wiil the grass still turn brown around downspouts ? some drain out into the yard with gutter pipe.

At that pitch, you will need plenty surfactant to provide cling. The grass is turning brown around downspouts because when it rains, all the leftover chemicals from the roof are  coming down in one spot. Maybe get some gutter extenders and partially or fully rinse the roof to prevent this.

I am at 30% strength with bleach. Chris recommended this to me years ago - lots of other guys were saying 40%, 50%, and I always just did 30% and have cleaned every roof I have come across. I also deal with lots of painted homes, painted dormers sticking out of roofs - and I have never ruined the paint using this strength.

30% for shingles is right.

It's far too weak for tile though.

I doubt Chris suggested 30% for tile.

I'm sure he uses 45-50% + surfactants and TSP and Alcohol to make it work even better!

I don't use alcohol, but I use 45-50% SH + 1/2-3/4 gal of Ammonyx Lo + 5-10 lbs of TSP

on tough tile roofs. On easier tile roofs, I leave out the TSP.

I have yet to find anything that will clean a concrete tile roof like TSP added to the mix.

The TSP really whitens the bare concrete tiles.

Chris, I use 5-10 lbs to a 100 gal mix, is that what you use?
I have the worst old bare tile roof I have ever seen, coming up on Friday this week.
I was considering using 55% SH - 3/4 gal Ammonyx lo and 20 lbs of TSP in the mix, which is more than I ever use. What do you think?

20 lbs TSP per 100 gallons will do nothing but clean like a mother F'er, on a bare tile roof.

Here is a trick, mix the TSP in the night before, and let that chit soak overnight, THEN hit it with the SH, mix again, and go clean. When u are up at Florida Chemical Supply, they have gallons of 50 percent Sodium Hydroxide Liquid that helps out tile roof mixes too.

1/2 gallon to 1 gallon of 50 percent sodium hydroxide per 100 with the TSP is WICKED, and will clean up a Junkie,, LOL

Thanks Chris, I figured that much TSP would make a difference!
I will certainly get me some Sodium Hydroxide when I go up to Florida Chemical Supply.
Is Sodium Hydroxide a temporary kick for the SH that kills it later?
That's fine if it does, as long as I know what to expect.
Thanks,
Chuck

NO ! Sodium Hydroxide stabalizes it, makes it stay good even longer!

Just dont get that chit on your hands or especally your eyes!

If it does get on you, rinse for 3 to 5 minutes,, once mixed with the chlorine you are ok.
