This guy from India came to a job I was on last month and in a panic needed his house washed with a sidewalk and small cement pad. Told her and him $375 they said ok when? I scheduled hem for the coming Saturday. They cancelled the night before cuz they had to do something. It kind of screwed me up and I knew they weren't being truthful. She calls me yesterday and says they were able to clean the cement but couldn't do the house and could I come out and do it. I should of F'd with her head a bit but I just "No, but thanks for calling". It felt pretty good. People from India tend to be the biggest pain in my azz.
You know Aaron I thought 1/2 a dozen ways I could of f'd with her head AFTER the fact. How sweet would it have been if I'd actually told like $85, scheduled the job then just strung her along with woeful excuses and postponements. I believe we have the largest population of people from this region right here in Central Jersey. They're wired very differently than other humans. I don't like to give a higher price knowing that I'll be lowering it to satisfy someone's culturally inherited disposition of negotiating. A fair price to them is one that leaves negative profit. If you lost money, the deal was "fair".
Honestly it is a complete different culture. To them not to haggle is an insult. To Americans asking to give a deal is an insult. But I have learned how to deal with different cultures. No matter if you told them it was a buck they would say it was to much and want to haggle. So I always start hire than what I want. They will also pick you to death so make sure you figure that in as well.
Just couldnt do it Pat. I'm gonna be honest here: When I answer the phone and I hear that accent i get real monotone and I have a "take it or leave it" attitude. I know its wrong but its a 50 - 50 crap shoot when it comes to them. I've had some good ones and I hate to treat em all like that because of a few bad apples. If we were slow I would entertain it more but I dont have the time or patience when its busy.

You give me very good price. I can get you lots of work... Yea! Okaaay! We have the same problem here to. 90% of them have huge homes, haven't taken care of them since they bought it in 1987 and now they expect us to wave our magic wand over it in a couple of hours and make it brand new again.. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy playing their game and we do clean for a lot of them. Its like Aaron said, you just need to know how to handle them.
Y'all must have lots of convenience stores and motels in jersey .
Over here when you see an American running a gas station, 7-11, or any other type of Quickie Mart, you gotta know something just aint right with this picture.
I have a huge interior painting project in 2 weeks.I swear to God I don't know how many or who really lives there but I do know who is writing the check.
