Why would you drive out from lets say somers piont,nj to cherry hill new jersey to do a roof cleaning of 3500 sq ft (2 story) for $300.00. The ride alone is 1 1/2 hrs one way. to do the job right would take 2 1/2 hr and the ride back ( being a holiday weekend) will probrably take 2-2 1/2 hrs. So in conclusion 6 hrs of time plus chemicals plus labor and gas what the hell are you really making.
So my question is, Is it worth it to go out and make what a 100-150 for 6 hrs you mine as well go work for someone at those rates. I cant stand liars but most of all i really cant stand low ballers who bid just to fill in time and degrade what we do. If You are reading this and you feel offended then that means you are probrably who im talking about.
Thanks bill booze for training the lowballer of South Jersey. Hahaha

the funny thing is me and another competitor were the same price and here comes roof top md at 150 lower just to get work what a dumb _ss. he basically cut his own throat becuase the customer was sold on a 150 higher than what he is doing the job for. Dummy. I really dont care if he reads this and gets pissed becuase guess what i will blow him out of the water with my new pricing and he will not win one job from service magic becuase i will be soo rediculously low that even i will be scratching my head.
What is the point of making the investment if there is no profit, I will assume the anyone that is new to running any business is clearly looking to get their feet wet and what they fail to understand is yeah you can get the going rate, if you are educated enough to understand how to sell a job on your business model and not just because you sell it cheapest. The forum teaches many things but is lacking in the areas of profit margins and sustainability for long term success. The reality is this trade can make a guy a great living to raise a family or what ever, but you can look beyond just sustaining and shoot for higher goals, like making a sizable nest egg for your future. It really can be done, if you can sell yourself. Kim R
oh its true. I will not of course sell my service so cheap that ill be scratching my head but i might do it on maybe 2 or 3 leads that come in. Like i said i had sold her at 450 but he came in at 300 so she went for it but said she was getting ready to call me right upto the piont when he arrived and gave her that ludicrous number. Oh well i cant sit here and bitch any more i just need to get back out there and sell my ass off.
Hey Mike, I been dealing with this for a few years as you can see Iam on service magic also. These guys are killing the roof cleaning business so keep your pressure washing business going also and plan on losing a few jobs here and there. This just got worse in the past two years in our area.
Bottom line: Service Magic might not be worth the time investment. Make sure you at least turn it off in the winter to avoid getting ice dam leads. Better yet it should be turned off altogether imho. Cheapest guy will win 98% of the time. Multi-unit bids are getting little attention from us right now since we're busy. Same thing: lowest bid wins. There's alot of homeowners who want the most qualified, hence, in this moment of time, they get priority.
Have gotten 2 jobs from Service Magic this month out of 3 leads. 1 for $685/1 small house 2.5 hours $350 that I up sold a house wash & driveway clean while there.
hey brian i see it getting worse and worse. I just dont understand why a true business man would cut his own throat and were paying for the lead. i let it go but am still scratching my head.

Do you know if he drove there just to bid that job or was he already out there doing another job? If it is the latter then it is an extra $300 in his pocket that he wasn't planning on making that day. $50 or less for chemicals $12 for Service M. and 2 hrs of work sounds good to me. If I am in a neighborhood I will take that all day long if I can stay right there and do all the jobs.

it's a shame what he's doing to that market, it should be one of the best markets in the country and he's totally screwing it up ... people pay close to $200 down there on a 3500 sq ft house just to get there gutters clean ... messed up
Materials $50, Service Magic $12= $238.00? Should I even ask if we're subtracting general liability and workers comp? You're right Pat...nuttin but price shoppers. I think you need at least general liability when you sign up for Service Magic. There's no way this guys is getting enough volume to make a living and last through the winter. Make all the money you can guys. From here on in you will start seeing more and more of this.
