I saw this coming 20 years ago when I was part of a crew working on what was a jr. high school then (now a middle school). The shop class was full of wonderful wood working tools, band saws, table saws, fordging equipment, etc... They removed everything for computers! Finding someone like his grandfather is quickly becoming a thing of the past!
I loved wood working shop. We even had a metal working shop where you could learn how to cast your own custom fit brass knuckles...LOL. I still enjoy wood working and have a nice set of wood working toys. I tried getting my kids interested in it but that didn't go well. Maybe because they're girls.
Now a lot of jobs go out to someone with a bachelors degree instead of someone who has the skill, know how, and ambition to perform these jobs. I work for Union Pacific Railroad and it's no different. They want someone who has went to college and studied something totally irrelavant to the job they are applying for. In ten years a high school education will mean nothing. A Bachelors degree will be the norm.
