So 1 of my regular"painting" customers in a very"wealthy neighborhood calls me up to ask me to look at her roof, house wash & a bunch of interior painting.
While I'm talking with her she tells me that some guy rolls up to her house in a beat up truck with a pressure washer in the back.He says he'll clean her roof right now for $500! She tells him she never asked him to come by and she always discusses everything with her husband(she doesn't) He say's "no you don't I'm here right now and I'll do it for $500 but you have to decide now!" She asked for his insurance, which he couldn't produce, then she ran him off.
Mind you this is a 2 story barrel tile with no gutters and professional landscaping!!I just sent her our proposal for $1,300
Now I know some guys go door to door but I hope you're not representing yourself this way.Our members should conduct themselves professionaly & personally I think flyers is as close as we should get to someones front door without being invited.
These are different times and "Most" people don't like this aproach.IMHO

She just called to let me know she wants us to go ahead with the roof cleaning, house washing, paver pool deck cleaning($2,600).Scheduled for the 10th of May.
Full interior repaint that I had quoted as well, that will be done in phases. She also said that she forgot to have me add the cleaning and painting of her driveway!!!(It's textured like a pool deck) & the paver walkway & front porch$$$ This year is really kickin for us.
Anyone know any good painters in the Tampa area lookin for work??
That reminds me of those asphalt guys that claim to have leftovers to sell you for cheap if you let them pour it now. For the record, my new salseman went out today and wrote 4k in bids on three jobs hitting doors for about 2 hours. Today was his first day. We always wear a company shirt, present our flier, and follow a simple formula for sales pitch. All insurance records are faxed or emailed upon request from the issuing insurers office. 3mill liability, work comp w/no exclusions, etc. Unfortunately you do have guys that learn here and even some that pay to be here that do try to sell jobs that way.
Now my field guys might try that on the way home for extra hours, but they are still insured etc. and can produce an office staff backed bid to the customer. Honestly I have to at least admire the guys enthusiasm to sell. You should find him and hire him as a sales rep with a non-compete. Kill two birds with one, well you get it.
he probably drives a dumpy truck on purpose for pity purposes. Heard a story about a guy who used to take him kids and wife in tattered cloths and leave them in the beat up truck when he went door to door and used his family needing to eat as a sales pitch. lol.

That's THE way to do it, write proposals. Then follow up on the proposals.
