Hello,

I left a post on the guest side of the forum breifly introducing myself so Ill cut to the chase.

I have ladders and safety equipment. I currently have a skid set up on a trailer with a 500 gallon tank, bottom discharge 1 1/4 and another bottom discharge of 3/4 used for a return. It has an 18 or 20" metal hose reel with approx. 300' of 1/2" yellow ag hose. Also has 3hp briggs with hypro pump that the pump is junk.  Can I use this hose, if so for what pumps?I was planning on buying a delavan 5850 to use but heard it could burn up pump with 1/2" hose. What about the bypass model in stead of demand? If I buy air pump can I use an dewalt AC construction air compressor to operate the pump?

was planning on using a 30% Sodium hypochlorite 65.5% water .5% surfactant (ammonyxLO or Dawn).

Do you always catch gutter run off? what do you do with it if you do?

Do you always use customers water source to rinse?

Sorry for all the questions, but I want to make sure I got the right idea.

Thank you, any response is greatly appreciated.

Bill

I run a Delevan Fat boy, with 200' of 3/4 " hose. I can shoot over 50', so I do most roofs from the ground, or if need be, from the gutterline. 1/2 hose will work, just won't have the flow or distance.

Got all mine from Lori at PWP.

You can use the 1/2 inch hose and reel for now, rinse it out reeal good between jobs.

5/8 hose will be better, and yes, an air diapraghm pump can be used with that air compressor, as long as it has more then 8 cfm. Or, you could get a Delevan Fat Boy pump, your choice.

Glad to see you made it Bill...

If we are not comfortable with the water drainage system then we catch it in a bag, tray or bucket.

Most of our jobs have land so a lot of the time we pour it in a empty field, gravel or concrete driveways usually before we leave it is all dried up. Some people take it with them.  (average job for us yields 5 gallons)

We always use the owners water supply.

We shot over 200 jobs with a 12 volt 5850 last year, using a 200 foot 5/8 hose. It's cheap on gas and very quiet, reasonable priced also...

Bob Jr.

Do you think it will be better to cut the length of hose down some or will it be ok @ 300'? I think ill go with a 12v set up for now. My compressor is around 6 scfm. And I cant afford to get a gas compressor and a air pump at one time.

Also my tank was used for fertilizer application and and the guy I bought it from put rv antifreeze in it last winter instead of draining the tank and pump (this is how the pump became junk, froze). Ive rinsed and rinsed it out and appears to me to be perfectly clean. I there anything I need to worry about with antifreeze, fertilizer having been in the tank.
Again, I'd like to thank the rcia and you members on here. Ive been on here reading and reading till my computer gets my migraines raging. Great info. I have a little trouble with searching what answers im looking for sometimes but usually do find it. I am still in awe that this concept of cleaning roofs is so unheard of in my area. I cant believe no one has thought of it with all the scummy roofs around.

300' is quite a bit of hose. Cutting it down to 200 should be more than plenty. Having to much hose will encourage a loss of pressure by the time your mix comes thru.

For the lack of not knowing any different we love our 12v quiet and cost effective. I have never had one go bad yet and we have 2 spares just in case.

I agree with Ed... I use 200 foot and I have always had plenty of hose.

Not sure about your 500 gallon tank we started out mixing up in a clear 55 gallon drum and it worked just fine. I do not know what reaction you might get in the tank or on the roof from mixing all of those chemicals together?

Gary Which tips are you using I am not shooting that far

but I have the 040 tips and 1/2" kuritec hose from Bob bought the fatboy kit guess i should have called him first

do you think its because of the hose, the tips or both that I am not getting the distance?

thanks Jake

The smaller the hose, and the longer it it, the MORE Flow and especially Pressure Loss there is. Gary runs 3/4 hose, you run 1/2 hose. You COULD do this. Get you a 100 foot piece of 3/4 hose used only to shoot a roof with. The short length and big diameter will make your pump shoot and spray like a male cat.

You'll get to the point where run foff won't be an issue. Starting out, bag the downspouts and spray real well all landscaping.

Last year I used the 5850 with 5/8 hose. I had 200' but quick released it in one 100' section and two 50' sections. Worked great.

This year I have gone to the Fatboy Bandit kit from Bob @ Pressure Tek. Has 1/2 " hose and I can spray just as well if not better with this set up. I have the accumilator tank and it is a must have for cut back spray.

If it was me for $58.00 a accumilator tank is a must for any 12V set up.

At the end of the day, we all have our own set ups, just have to find what works for you. I have attached a picture of my setup and for me it is in and out, spray and go.

As for mix and smell, well there are solutions and over time you'll figure it out, again experiment with that. I have had good results with Arm & Hammer Plus Oxiclean, alittle pricey but helps with the smell.

I don't use surfactant any more unless a very steep pitch. I have developed a solution that will clean a roof in no time, very little solution, no downspout runoff and no SH smell. I don't post it, nothing personal, just business. My point, there are alternatives and if you take a little of this and a little of that and try some new things, bingo. biggrin

Here is where Im at right now. I have the set up previously mentioned. I think im gonna ditch the 500 gal. tank and use 55 gal blue poly drums. I already have several. I don't wanna haul a 300-350lb tank and skid around. I wanted to use the 1/2 hose, but thats where my debate is. I talked to a fella today again at pwp. who told me it would fry the motor. Although it is claimed on here to be done with no problems. Then I read of pressure switch problems, fuses popping, and other issues from using 1/2 hose. I really don't want to spend the couple bucks for new hose if not necessary right now, but if there would be any issues at all with using this hose, Ill just buy new 5/8 or 3/4. If I buy a new hose I'm gonna go with a delavan 5850. If I can save the money on hose I will buy the fatboy, unless the 5850 works better w/ smaller hose.
I know im probably making a mountain out of a mole hill here, but I don't like throwing money away on tools that don't do what I need them to do. Ive done plenty of that in my ventures already. Which I think I may have done with buying the skid set up for $200. Besides getting a nice hose reel.

Thanks
Bill

you could also get an accumulator and adjust as necessary than there would not be a problem with pump cycling so many options
I think they are about $60.00

No Kelly you should hit the F search button ( as you call it )  and stop counting on everyone to do your research for you.. some of these questions are basic stuff...

we all paid 100 up front or aleast i did back in 2009 , it was just called a donation then, same thing applies, do alittle home work  ,my gawd ...
