Improving Water Solubility Of Bleach Powder

UPDATE: Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Hypochlorite DO NOT seem to be compatible. I mixed 1 pound of CH with 8oz. of Sodium Bicarbonate.

The results after sitting overnghight,..was a chrystal clear,.light pink liquid,..that smelled like SH when it's mixed with something incompatible,..I think at least a few here probably know what smell I mean. The undissolved powder was still left on the bottom of the bucket.

The Good,..I spilled some out and let it dry on painted black metal,..and a few other flat surfaces,..it dried with nothing left behind. So the Bicarbonates effect did seem to counteract the Calcium haze,..which is probably the incompatibilty coming into play,..I don't know though.

The Bad. As stated above it's incompatible,..and when in the bucket it doesn't't smell like it would clean a roof. But I did stick my fingers in it and smell it that way and it smells just the way it should smell. So out of curiosity I will be trying a test spot on a roof,..IF it ever stops raining here.

Looks like the soda is countering the smell ?  I wonder how it is going to clean, or what would have happened had you been able to stir it now and then ? Baking Soda is dumped into pools all the time that use Cal Hypo/SH.

Lets hope it stops raining up there!

Hey Chris,..no,..the bicarbonate didn't counter the smell,..it made it smell contaminated,..like the way it smells when acid is mixed in regular hypo.

They also dump muriatic acid into pools to balance the PH,..and we know muriatic and hypo aren't compatible. The amounts we use in in roof cleaning are alot more concentrated than what's in a pool,..therefore the reactions are gonna be more severe.

I think the CH is now ruined,..it would hardly even bleach a colored wash towell. So I doub't it's going to clean anything at this point.

It must be the sodium that reacts with the CH,..becasue they always say not to mix CH with SH.

Hmmnn .... There are several references stating CH is much more soluble in soft water, maybe it was too much baking soda used ? I wonder how much it really takes to soften water ?
