Has anyone ever used a "less potent" mix on the south roofs that show no sign of algae, moss or lichen. I have thought about doing this because I have two 55 gal tanks on my trailer. I would have the ground man switch a valve when I spray the south roof. I could see myself doing this ONLY if I didn't see any crap on the roof.
I use about 32% SH normally and would cut this down to 16%. Do you guys think it's worth a few bucks to do this?

Bruce, not a bad idea... What we like to do on the areas that don't need to be sprayed we just lightly mist them instead of saturating them with the mix. Full power mist, quick and simple...

No use in using full strength with all you really need to do is kill the spores,
I cut mine down but do add more ammox to get other polluntants off, I dont make a habit of this, but maybe I shoud, I have just done this when i'm running low on mix, and also have done this when owner only wanted the north and east side done, so I water the mix down and spray the south and west sides.
A little extra for the them

I like this idea a little better as it cuts down on thinking,
I just spray real light, or I leave it for last and then add water to the mix.
Thanks for your comments, men. I think I will spray light instead of working off two tanks.

Dave, How much AMMOX do you add and to what quantity? You are referring to Ammonyx-L or M? I have not tried this product yet. I have been using 50 oz of Simply Cherry, from Pressure Tek in 100 gal tank.
My answer to my customers is: Just because you can't see the algae on these 2 sides of the roof, doesn't mean there is none there.
The light algae on parts of the roof that don't have enough to show black, is still alive and will turn black soon enough-or spread over onto the North side quickly. When I get off the roof, I want it all dead.
Just a light even coat will kill it all. It's worth an extra 5 gallons mix and 10 minutes time to do a complete erradication of all living algae.

This is my toughts on it just cause you dont see it does not mean it aint there
for example my own roof I know it was dirty but with my dark shingles i could not see it but it was there
When you kill mold, Algae and mildew it spores off and will grow on the sides that are not dirty. Treat both sides! We just bid on a roof the other day, The lady said my bid was high very high and the other guys just said to clean the dirty side and she doesn't know who to TRUST! If they want just one side treated, yeah clean it but alway explain that mold Algae is airborn and will grow on the side that is not dirty.
If the owner insists to go cheap and for you to clean only the "dirty" side, you may want to add a disclaimer to your quote/contract that it is against your recommendation and you obviously do not guarantee the untreated area.
A question just popped in my mind. If only one side of the roof is treated, and the other side does happen to have algae, will that increase the likelihood of the treated side getting reinfected sooner than if the entire roof was treated?
Becuase the side that looks clean will still have bacteria spores on it but might not be visible for some time. In order to provide a warranty you must kill everything on the roof even the clean side.
