Hey Rodney, nice post! We just purchased an iPad2 and I can't wait to use it on estimates! I just saw an app the other day that took measurements, I'd like to see if it would take a measurement of a roof.

Go to eagleview.com
It will cost you a few bucks, but they will measure from satellite. Very accurate. There are other sites like pictography.com and a few others.
Pictography lets you measure it yourself using their online tools. It could be expensive depending on your region. Could be worth it. Would be great for over the phone quotes as you can pull it up on computer and see many sides and obstructions.
These are tools I use in my roofing biz.

I use my Ipad totally. Have a great picture gallery to show customers. Do quotes right on the stop and e-mail to them. Mine has wifi & 3G for e-mail.

I use an app called Keynote for my photo's and Freashbooks for my quotes.

Great tool for in the field. I remote with my desk top. GoToMyPC.com is good for remote.

Just my two cents.

I have been using the iPad for several months. We use keynote for presentations, office2 hd for estimates, informant hd for scheduling ( you can link this too google calendars) and iannotate PDF for signing and emailing contracts.

We have keynote, we just dont use it anymore. I just flip through the pictures for them, or show them how to do it. Customers LOVE the Ipad
