A question about Premium members only Forum
Permalink

Is it true the Premium members only Forum is closed to the search forums ? If that's true wouldnt your page rankings go down. I talk to people that get 50% or more of their business from seo google searchs. So by not posting in the open Section  Of Rcia It would  possibly hurt your Business.   (Just curious)

Please explain Thanks

David,
You are correct Google can not crawl the
closed forum. That is were we members of the
RCIA association share our business
ideas and information. We do not want that out
on Google. We do post here on the free side
for our SEO. Some care about SEO and some don't.
It depends on thier business model I guess.

Chris

SEO is not important to me at this time. Once I start work, weather permitting, I'll post pictures on the open side, starting shortly I'll be posting on the premium side only. Not that I have something to offer that is secret, but I am tired of all the lurkers just getting a free ride. Nothing personal, just business. Which lurker will be your competition this year?

As far as the information side of things,...I would have been all for making people pay for roof cleaning info several years ago,...but as it stands I'm not sure it's worth the loss of web presence to start an effort toward hiding all the good information,...it's simply too late. There is enough information among the various boards for anyone to springboard into this business. This business is basically simple,..and all the real questions regarding setups, chemicals, etc... have been answered publicly many, many times.

For those just starting out, I believe the premium side will give the edge over the guys who have to dig for the info on their own. But regardless,..the pertinent info is already out there.

A long time ago on The Grime Scene site,...Chris Tucker stated,..."This is Insanity",....in regards to giving competitors valuable information. To me,..that is when a premium movement should have been done. But that ship has sailed.

Hey Chris,..you know as well as I do, that years ago,.. before all the advancements were uncovered,...a premium board would have been almost priceless to those interested in this service. For one thing,..there wasn't near as many doing it as there is now,...so a premium board way back when would have been a huge success I think,.....even at $500 membership fee. For those who stumbled their way through it knows that $500 would have been cheap compared to the trial and error method.

You actually kept me more interested in roof cleaning than any other one individual. You put out so many different ideas, that it kept it interesting to keep moving forward,..and for me to start thinking on my own. As it stands though,..there isn't alot left to uncover as far as making it simpler and quicker. Sure there will be ideas that tweak our current methods,..but ground breaking ideas have been uncovered through recent years. Not enough subject matter to keep making huge improvements on.

Jeff

138394,Jeff! All you said is simple FACT. Not that I'm opposed to our having a private forum, for Premium members. Some things do not belong to the public, they are for us or somewhat personal, among us.

If you want to share something business related then post it in the paid section if you want to advertise then post in the open section. Post all the before and afters you have and make sure you tag your post. I strongly agree with having a section tapped off for guys that are truly serious about what we do and have a ton in stake on roof cleaning and power washing. Yes anyone can go online and learn the chemicals and pumps and etc..... But the keys to running a great business is what we do behind the sceenes like advertising, selling ,who to sell to,what exact insurance we need, And so and so on.......thats the stuff that we can keep behind closed doors......... this is just my opinion and my own two cents.

I totally agree, and feel the current configuration of the forum gives the best of both worlds. A closed, or mostly closed forum kills SEO yawn

Not too long ago, Tucker and I spoke at length about the future of this industry. And sorry to say, but I think for the guys getting into this in the past year, and this year forth, are gonna have a hard time establishing themselves. This board has been invaluable in the education of proper and safe roof cleaning, but with that has allowed an influx of new start-up roof cleaning businesses that will and are, watering down the playing field. The truth is, within the next 2-3 years, roof cleaning will be a common service offered by every painter, roofer, handyman, plumber, etc. We now have home centers offering it down here. And I anticipate before it's all said and done, the major home stores will offer the service, along with their floor installation, etc.
We supported a closed forum a few years back, and it didn't happen unfortunately. Hopefully, a compromise can be reached that will pacify everyone. SEO is everything, IMO, for a roof cleaning business.

Guys wanted a private side. They got it. Doesn't seem like a big deal.
The org is supposed to educate the customers so they buy and prepare for government interference in our growing industry. Along with create a standard to lock out hacks and more stuff etc.
If anyone thinks that some government folk wont eventually want to regulate our spraying of a hazardous chemical when it grows to a larger industry as it is from the spread of bacteria.......

I don't think a closed side hurts your business. I do think discussing your marketing and pricing on the open sides can harm your business when your competition reads it. At least on the closed side you know if your competition is reading your posts.

Site gets 800 unique ips a day all the way from China, Australia and all of the US.

138394,I agree. I think having both sides open and closed is important and I think "We the posters" need to think ahead where to post. I have messed up multiple times at this very thing and I'm trying to fix that permanantly for myself!
I also feel SURE that, as you said "government folk WILL eventually want to regulate our spraying of a hazardous chemical when it grows to a larger industry as it is from the spread of bacteria.......
It is bound to happen! It may be on any level of govt. Last week there was a car / truck accident a mile from me and Chlorine was dumped in the road. They closed the road - the major highwaylike road in my area, for at least 4 hours! I had to detour around many miles to get home!
So, this could kick up a county law against carrying X amount of gallons of SH?
At some point, as you said, higher govt officials will jump in and regulate away our entire chemical cleaning system!
Then it's back to pressure washing again!
Thanks for helping us think!
Chuck

Or maybe the government will step in and make the shingle manufacturers eliminate the root of the problem all together,..which would shut all the roof cleaners down,..even the rogue ones.

I've thought about the number of guys spraying hypo, and when it will be regulated,...but really,...hypo isn't an explosive, and is probably one of the widest used chemicals on Earth. I think it will take some serious reports or complaints for the government or even municipalities to enact some sort of regulation. I don't think it contaminates underground water supplies,...I mean really,...what is the worst thing someone can say about the use of hypo.

.
EXACTLY!  I STRONGLY AGREE! In my area, it is unusual not to see "Pressure Cleaning" on every lawn or landscape or tree service or painter's truck out there! It's almost ALWAYS part of a handyman's advertising. The only ones you mentioned that may not get involved, are the Plumbers and Roofers. Too much $ in Roofing and being a plumber, PLUS all that SH in that plumbers butt crack and he'd have to quit! biggrin
