I was asked last night, how beneficial would it be to have a roofer handy for repairs and inspection? My answer was that it will allow you to upcharge and set you apart from the other cleaners.
It works like this. Mr. homeowner, we will not only clean your roof, we will also give you inspect your overall roof health. When we get down, we will go over our findings with you and arrive at a mutually acceptable solution.
Then, use the roofer for your ground guy or spray tech. Pay him the money you get for the repair and whatever else you deem appropriate.
The result is. You will be offering a value added service at no cost to you. The customer will be getting more than he expected. And you will get work from the roofer.
How do you get work from the roofer?? Glad you asked Before he does a layover( a roof on top of a roof). You need to clean the first layer. This will be healthy for the roof. All that crap won't be under the new roof decaying and degrading the quality of the new roof.
I know this is long. But, I hope it helps someone.
Rodney, I like the idea of cleaning the old before installing the new. What a great way to break the ice with roofers you don't know. It's a whole lot easier to network when they don't see you as a threat.
Good stuff, Rodney! I was put in contact with a roofer just last week and he seemed hesitant at first, but we agreed that we'd pass work to each other. I never thought about cleaning the old shingles before laying new ones, but that definitely makes sense. Is this common practice? The roofer I spoke with said he doesn't care or believe in cleaning roofs...

It isn't necessarily common practice. But, that doesn't mean it shouldn't be. I had a homeowner that wanted me to do a layover on top of moss. This was before I knew how to clean a roof. I turned down the job.
It is certainly something you could sell tho. All you have to do is make it make sense.
which isn't difficult
The reason that roofer doesn't believe in roof cleaning is bc theres nothing in it for him!! Make it worth his while and explain it to him as you would a customer. You might get a different response.
See, if you just clean the roof, He doesn't get to replace the roof. It's a lose to him. You might offer him 200 bucks. He stands to make 2-3000 by replacing it. Just concentrate on cleaning re roofs. See if he is interested in making some extra cash doing your repairs. Just, ease him into it. Ya know, spider to the fly.
