Hey guys,

I'm pretty green and wanted to see if you had any recommendations for roof anchors to use for roof cleaning.

Thanks in advance.

AC,

Thanks for the video.  Are you selling this roof anchor through Delux?  I called Robert yesterday and he said that they've discontinued this item.

Any suggestions on where I can buy one?

Thanks.

It is just a pipe that fits down inside the pipe. Go to an industrial supply place that sells and welds all kinds of metal. I have a local place that will cut and weld anything I want. Just have them cut the pipe the size you want and weld a big chain link to the top so you can clasp your rope onto it.

Acyually Delevan Fat Boy. Were done using those pumps!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Delevan 5850 has been field tested with our system and works well. Also have been using the SureFlo dual head pump with great results. Can run with a 30 / 40 tip with 1/2 id hose at 100 psi and 4gpm. It rocks.

I received the below PM from AC. I thought maybe I was posting in the vendor section or something. So I deleted my post and was going to apologize to AC. I looked further and couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. I figured out that I was in the regular forum and I don't see anything I did wrong, so I re-posted it. Are we not allowed to help other members any more? Should I go delete the thread where I posted my trick with winding up my hose reel with my Dewalt cordless? That might stop someone from buying an electric hose reel. What is going on? If I did something wrong I would like to hear it from some of the Head Honchos here.

Respectfully, David

P.S. The original poster did ask the "Guys" not just AC.

"David,

Maybe we can all post the 50 point standard and certify homeowners at Home Depot. They have Saturday how to seminars.  After all its just bleach and water. Its a great weekend home improvement project for husbands all over America and why pay anyone for something so simple? Just clean your roof your self America. None of us need jobs...

That is what your doing to a vendor when you post something like you posted. It can be just as easily turned back around on this industry. Do we want that???

People wonder why distributors and vendors shy away from theis association."

Yea David, a little while back I posted a picture of my roof cleaning wand and was asked in a round about way by Bill Booz,.. to post this kind of info on the premium side. I was also asked to continue a discussion about downstreaming on the premium side. Not exactly the same thing,..but it's the same direction.

When this site was created,..it was for us to all help one another as contractors,..not  necessarily contribute to the manufacturers,..and especially be asked to keep hush for fear of infringing on a companies over priced tools.

Thanks for bringing this to the boards attention David,..this seems to be the direction the board has been going in lately.

Very well put Jeff,

And no David you did nothing wrong, any thing you can give on helping another roof cleaner out share it. This board is not about vendors its about Roof Cleaning
some  people here lately think its all about them and them only. certain individual or Individuals think of nothing but lining their own pockets and not trying to help out a fellow roof cleaner which is why we are all here...

I dont know the 3 posters above but I respect their Views....and the courage for posting ..

I always felt chris started this board to share and help.....What I always wondered why If they wanted a paid site ..Why didnt they start a new site and leave this one alone.

Its like you live in a apartment and one day a few people decided to turn it into a condominum requiring you to pay to convert.

2 quick things I never had a problem paying the 100 dollars I just dont think (for me) I wanted to contribute to Isolation of others that couldnt pay.

and finally this is just my opinion not the arguement of the Day

Question. I have posted my reply to David in the PAID section because...
A. Its worth the $100.00 to see the mud fling biggrin
B. Its a fund raiser for the RCIA.
C. I dont want potential customers to see this drama.
Thanks,
AC

I have heard this a few times and this did happen because of the majority of the forum users.  There are polls in the old threads that even in the first year the majority of voting users wanted to stop giving all this info away for free.  I have had this discussion with many that have been hear for 6-8months or less.  It seems to be about an 8 month trend for new guys.  They spend 8 months learning and then realize that as much as they appreciate the free knowledge they don't want their neighbors reading it and becoming competitors over night.  We have seen people read this forum and start in a week.  Anyone that has been here over a year consistently active knows exactly what I am talking about.

But you need to realize that the 100 fee is not about the forum really it is about the association.  We have a certification committee working for the members and a directors board.  We have events and webinars, and we have a main goal of informing the public (your potential customers) that there is a solution to the problems with their roofs.  As that is this industries primary problem (lack of consumer awareness) that is our main goal.

Some talks towards this include applying for grants and starting research projects, attending national and local pm and Realtor events, making our certification useable and available to the other organizations in the cleaning industry so we can pull a collective rather than create a division and so much more.

So to answer your question of why we didn't do this elsewhere.  Well Chris had already started it here and others wanted to see it happen here.  Most of our best participants don't get involved in these threads at all.  In fact some very good participants don't post on this forum or any forum.  We have the attention of the entire cleaning industry and we are the unified roof cleaners to the best of our ability.  We had a person here once that tried to separate this forum and another under the pretense of starting an org.  Unfortunately he took a lot of peoples money and produced none of the promised organization.  All it did was create division in the industry and now that so called org that never formed and forum have shut down and most of those people are here.

I know it seems simple but what we are doing here is very hard and complex.  There are a lot of personalities and views, misinformation and opinions.  But in the end we have created a standard and are working on certification.  We have established an entity and are in the process of changing it to a 501c non-profit org.  We have had 5 or 6 roundtables and attended 3 more.  We have created something here and it is a lot more than just a message board.

Last Sunday many of the BOD/moderators were on a members only talk shoe show to answer questions from the body and many got to see a bigger picture of what is going on.  All I can say is recognize that the association is a lot more than 1 or 2 guys.  If you want to hear more look out for updates as I would like to see the BOD address the body on talk shoe on a more regular basis.\

Now why the rest of the BOD does not come out of the woodwork and tell you guys how hard it is I don't know.  Maybe they fear the retaliation, maybe they want to ignore the concerns.  You will have to ask them.  I have watched many of you come onto the moderators and BOD and cert committee and more are coming, so maybe some of you that are involved could help answer your brothers and sisters concerns.  I have done it for over a year, I promised all these good folk that we wouldn't make any more promises that we couldn't fulfill over a year ago when it was just Chris, Mike S, Larry and me running the message board.  I have kept that promise and I hope you all can understand that we spawned from this message board but we are much more than that.  I hope you can also understand that Chris was taking a huge liability certifying guys and that the org structure will be better suited to this and protect those involved.  You can say ohh it's easy all you want, but certification comes with serious legal responsibilities that many here do not understand, especially when it comes to chemical and fall safety and especially if we were to say that you could only use one process.  That would constitute fraud without scientific evidence.

The list goes on.  we receive advice from many successful people with multimillion business that have seen other orgs make serious mistakes that hurt them badly.

Sorry that's all I have time for this morning.  Gots to run a company here as well.
Sorry to derail this thread from it's other two topics.  I wanted to answer your question as this is what I have devoted a huge part of my life to for myself and the community, and I thought you deserved an answer.

Heres the rub with this issue though,...if there is gonna be a separate board that is a paid for forum, then so be it. But I believe the issue is having the free board open and having posters kinda put on watch as to what pertinent information is being freely tossed around for the freeloaders to use. Either shut this board down or let the posters post what they want without making them feel like turncoats.

What is this free board gonna be used for if the posters can't post ideas and money saving tips such as what David posted about the vent anchor.

I think the idea of paid for info fine,.... if it was done years ago,...but as far as I'm concerned the damage to a premium board was done long ago when roof cleaning was first being freely discussed. There is so much free info out there right now that anyone wanting to start a roof cleaning business will have plenty of good reading material,..whether it be this board or The Grime Scene, PWP, PTState, or Dons board.

People who are interested in starting this service aren't gonna be stymied because of the RCIA's Premium board and it's guidelines. They will just look elsewhere. So your neighbors will be out there anyhow if they're so inclined.

Jeff

Jeff, personally I think we should let the free side do as you please as well.  The mods are there to keep the peace and addresse concerns, not lock you all down.  This will be discussed and the AC issue at this comming Tuesdays meet.  The paid side is much more than just the message board and I agree that the info is out there anyway so trying to control it is almost impossible.  We tried it this way, I think it's time for a change.

138394,

Agree 100% percent with this post, its gets pretty old being warned not to say the L O R I name on this site anymore.......I'm still waiting for the so called new vendors to do half of what she did, pictures, tips, freebies, and getting the lowest price for SH in your area and the great service PWP provides.....

Like I told the guy that warned me about PWP, if you have issues, delete everything PWP ever posted......and get off my back.....

And you still want $100.00?confuse

First of all thank you to the folks that sent me pm's throwing their hats in to help, keep em coming.

Toy you should be aware that the $100 is for you to join the association, not just the premium section.

You should also be aware that Lori was not banned from here to be replaced by other vendors, she got herself kicked off every industry forum she joined for not playing nice, following the simple rules and manipulating people. It wasn't an exclusive event to this forum.

We don't hate her I think she sells cheap decent product, but we don't think she should be able to promote here. I feel bad for her but she dug her own hole and hurt many of us in the process including the guy that got her on here, he got hurt the most and doesn't really want to talk about it in public.

The info she shared was taught to her by Chris T, Mike S. and Dave W. So aside from Dave, the other two are still here sharing.

Jeff.. the first time I read your above post I didn't see my name, but I don't think I am the one that said that to you, maybe I was but as far as I can remember the only contact I have made with you was to try and contact you or get you to contact me to discuss various concerns you have brought up on the board. Unfortunately you never get back to me and I don't understand why.
Weather it was me or not it was only done to add content when the premium section was started as far as I know and I never really had a lot of interest in that anyway. The forum is a big draw from the work of the association adn I don't pay much attention to how the forum works anymore.

As to trying to contact you, we will try to have another talkshoe were you guys can address the BOD, I would like to see the next one open to the public, so at least when you see that advertised in the future you should come and get the answers you keep asking for, because some of what you want to know seems to get convoluted on the board. People attach emotion to posts that isn't always there and I find it a little more personal to hear someone speak or see them.

The rest of this is for anyone that cares to think about it.
It saddens me that a lot of people just get negative and mad without hearing all sides of the story or making any attempt to contact the people they are accusing or questioning. Right now you have a good group of people working on the new cert and you have some good BOD members that are active.

Such as Steve B, Chris T, Gary, Kim, Ted, Brett, Chris M, Charles E, Bruce S, and a whole lot more so please realize that when some of you accuse the entire association for something that is really only about one or two people it is pretty unfair to those that are working hard to help. Not all that I mentioned are BOD but all of them are working hard to make RCIA a great association from roundtables to committees, so instead of whining and complaining why not lend a hand and use your expertise and opinions to help us all create something? Why not come find out how hard it is and help us all grow, because if that is what you really want to see happen than I feel that you should help make it happen.

There is a lot more to any business than the product or service it sells. You could say hey making a cupcake is easy, but by the time you get the first one on a shelf in a building with an oven and employees that cupcake won't be so simple anymore. There is a lot more to growing an industry than spraying stuff out of a hose.
