Negative Keywords can influence your business in positive ways! Another recent experience from our Google Ad campaign

Negative keywords in Google Adwords can influence your campaign in positive ways and tremendously. You might have noted that even after using keywords like "roof cleaning", "roof shampoo" you might not get the level of response from your Google Adwords campaign.

One of the reasons for lack of expected response could be not using negative keywords effectively in your campaign. Imagine you are using "roof cleaning" as a keyword which appears quite targeted for a roof cleaning business. Most don't know what a match type is so I assume we are doing a broad match here. And some knowledgeable folks may have this keyword in phrase match. Both may turn out to be a problem. While the broad match is a bigger problem, even the phrase match can turn out to be wasting your marketing dollars. How about someone searches for "roof cleaning chemicals" or "roof cleaning website" or "roof cleaning tips"  or "roof cleaning pump" etc......guess what your Ad is showing up for those searches and people may click on it. You are royally screwed for those clicks without any chance of conversion because it turns out  that some roof cleaning rookie was searching for a website for his business or chemicals/pump to be used for his company. (not your customer!). At the same time, using exact match may restrict the search too much.

Negative keywords come in handy here. If you would have used "chemical","website", "pumps" etc. as a negative keyword, then you  can avoid your Ad to show when those keywords are searched and save your marketing dollars to be used in the right direction.  Everyday, we see hundreds of search queries being made from the campaigns we manage and just a simple change of words completely changes the purpose of search like you already saw.

This is my very current experience for something similar whereby we could have ended up paying again & again for the bad keywords had we not implemented negative keywords in the campaign. We can still excuse the first click for the  bad keywords because it is hard to predict the numerous possibilities & combinations people may search for but you can certainly prevent those bad keywords from consuming your budget the next time.

Hope this article helps you with your Google Ad campaign. Currently we are running a one month FREE Trial for Pay Per Click program and also providing  a Free $100 credit for Adwords account to 3 businesses willing to join for a 3 month program. So you end up paying just one month fee & get service for 3 months! You can reach me at 888-682-7487 for further details if interested. Thanks! for the read.
