Composite Roof cleaned in Houston Texas

I want to thank Chris Howell of Roof Restore for helping me November 23rd to clean this 3 story house in Houston Texas.  Originally Chris was just going to watch but one of my helpers quit with no notice that morning and my other helper barely made it but had a bad upset stomach & diararrhea.  I decided that 3 stories up was no place for him to be.  So I had to clean the roof myself while Chris Howell and my helper Chris watered everything.  This roof was cleaned with a 130 gallons of 30% SH & 70% water and a few other ingredients.  I also used 1 gallon of Ammonx Mo due to the steepness of the roof.  We used a delavan Fatboy with 200' 5/8" Kuritech hose, a Suttner 2700 trigger gun & size 30 nozzles in 25 & 0 degree configurations.  We had a gusting breeze from the South that day at up to 30 mph.

I had to split the video into 3 sections because You Tube only allows 10 minutes max and I shot 24 minutes to clean the front part of the house.  The entire job took 1 1/2 hours.

Have a Happy & Safe Thanksgiving everyone!

Marcus,

I loaded the vids directly into your post. Looks like that roof anchor is serving you well. did you use your gutter cane to rinse the gutters?

Thanks,

AC

Thanks AC!  I did not us the roof anchor as their vents were covered.  I used my gutter cane and I can't wait till Deluxe ships me my other gutter cane along with everything else because I sure could have used 2.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

No Safety Harness?  Wow you are taking a big risk my friend.  Why do you choose to shoot from the ridge?  I seen you slip once, pretty scary.

It's hard to tell from the video but there's no way you could have shot that house from the gutters. It was a good 50-60 foot from eave to ridge. Worse yet there was really no way for marcus to have tied off without actually nailing an anchor point in the roof.

What if he would of fell?  You have to think about safety.  I know your new but there is always a way to tie off.  He could of tied off from a tree in the back.  Your right it is hard to tell the distance.  I will tell you this we would of shot that house from the gutter line or rigged up a harness.

Douglas it is easy to be critical when you are not there in my shoes.  No there was no place too tie off like I would have normaly done.  There was a swimming pool in the back yard without a diving board and no trees to tie off to.  Yes my foot did slip once when I was sitting down traversing between the peeks.  If you look closely I was resting on my left leg and my body never slipped.  My right leg slipped because I was sitting down to keep my center of weight as low as possible to the roof and that put my feet on edge instead of flat giving me less traction to move forward.  I have been doing this for 16 years and am no rookie.  Normally we do tie off.  If you notice, I was wearing safety masks & gloves as I do not take safety lightly, and I do tie off when possible when there is something solid to tie off to.  You sure did not see me standing up and hoping across the hard areas, because if you slip a little doing that you will go down because your center of gravity will be too high.  Chris Chowell may be a rookie to roof cleaning but he probably knows more than most of us as he comes from a roofing background.  We could have shot some of this from the gutter but I was dealing with steady gusts of wind at 15 mph peaking at 30 mph.  We could only shoot about 10 feet up at best before the wind would blow our stream sideways.  The wind was coming from the South which was from the right side of the pics.  That is why I started from the right spraying downwards to the left letting the wind blow it where I wanted the stream to go.  I could have picked another day but I was dealing with a cold front that was coming the next day that dropped the temp 50 degrees and I work better and have more traction when it is warm.

Marcus, I am not trying to be critical of anyone.  I'm just saying that a life or being paralzed the rest of your life isn't worth it.  Also everytime your feet aren't flat or your slipping your removing granules.  Just would hate to hear about another one of us guys falling off a roof.  There's always tomorrow in the case of wind..  We do very large homes also and sometimes we have to reschedule.  Just be safe out there.  Also I don't know if you have ever heard about OSHA, but around here if they see you on a roof like that without a harness your in alot of trouble (financial that is)  I had a roofer buddy get a $5,000 fine.

Marcus, you don't need to explain. Toledo thinks its "unprofessional" to even walk a roof during the cleaning.

Great job marcus as usual. Chris, glad you got to see a TRUE professional at work.
