I guarantee you that would do more for the membership of RCIA than the constant bickering over topics that are just personal opinions. But then again, that is just MY personal opinion.biggrin

Kumbiyaaaa my Lord Kumbiyaaaaaa Oh sorry..... got caught up in the moment. LoL..........

When I joined RCIA in May 2009 I knew there were changes coming about, andalot of us were asking and begging for changes, and one of the changes was for a paid membership. It is taking some time, but there are great things in the works for our Association. Chris and the other board members have given us all so much great information and a place to all come together and help one another along in our own businesses.

I bet that everyone that has joined the RCIA, whether they participated in discussions or just looked around for info has learned some piece of information that has made their business a little more successful and make more money then if they hadn't found this great board. Some have made a little more, and some have put together complete start up businesses and made tons of money.

All of us here whether you are a paid member or not have helped grow this Association to were it is today..... in 2 years no less. It's time to take it to the next level, and this next level has costs associated with it. Lets all work together to make this thing grow. There are a lot of changes coming about and a lot ofdecisions that are going to be made as this Association keeps growing.  I strongly encourage everyone to become a paid member. I think everyone here has made more than $100 from some piece of information found or shared by others here. This is the ONLY way this Association can grow and we will ALL benefit from the great things to come.

There are many many great guys here, we just all need to keep working together and help one another grow our businesses and our great RCIA group. There is a great Brotherhood here and I am proud to be a part of it, and I hope everyone else is as well.

CHRIS, GARRY, JERRY, BILL, and everyone in this group, THANK YOU for everything that you have done, the information shared, and time invested into this great place.

Chris Madden

Nawwwwww....it'll never happen.I agree with MK about the vendor statuts.AC may not be a bad person, but rest assured it gives the appearance of insider advantages.

But then again I haven't paid any dues so my $.02 most likely isn't worth anything. The one thing I have noticed about this site is a bunch of guysi n business 1 or 2 years who think they know it all and don't hestitate to tell experienced contractors the who, what's and how's of roof cleaning.

Scott, your opinion and that of Mike Kreisle are ALWAYS valued here Big Guy!

I remember Mike! Just like we can paint with a roller vs a paint sprayer, we can roll the roof cleaning chemical on, IF we have to.

As you know, we are in the early formation days of the RCIA, and trying to do things right.

Wow you guys are Some Low Ballers this site has provided so much useful info for free whats so hard about giving back and becoming a Paid Member you should be Proud to call your self a Paid member of RCIA anyways

How is somebody a lowballer, if they are waiting to see what comes out in the ways of certification requirements. Are they going to be very lax and anyone can qualify with a check, or are they going to be ridiculously restrictive? That's what some of us are waiting to see. Too lax and your neighbor can have the same certificate as you, lessing it's value. And too restrictive, it will reak of too much outside involvement.

Just so you understand who I am, along with Bill Booze and some others, I am on the certification committee for PWNA. I am trying to do my little part to help our industry too. But you can be sure I won't be quiet if PWNA starts to err toward high pressure nor be quiet if I see RCIA start a public campaign stating Pros put algicides and other ****amamee stuff in our mixes. Like I said, there is possible conflict having a vendor that sell additives and equipment on a board with voting power. What is the vendors vote if the board wants to state that a pump up sprayer is acceptable for Professional Roof Cleaning method? Cry foul?
Again, some of us are waiting to see how things play out. I respect the guys here, but not sending in a check that only amounts to a steak dinner on a Thursday, does not mean we have ill feelings. Sad thing is... I'm sure there are some with a "Certificate" that think they can out clean me because I don't have one. Really sad.

Well well, here's one thing we both agree on. The PWNA couldnt have picked a better guy to sit on the residential certification committee. Good luck , I know you have the contractors interests at heart. You demostrated that at the UAMCC for the contractors by the contractors.

Maybe you guys should think about asking for others help also. Its always good to have interests outside the org to help. Keeps things on track and above board.

Hello Doug, Profit is NOT a Dirty Word, we all need to turn a profit to survive. I assure you, no one is "getting rich" off the RCIA, and even if we did, who cares ?

If the information here was not worth it, no one will pay anyway.

And yes, AC is a vendor, no one is hiding that. Did you know that the PWNA was started by a Vendor ? The original forum of this industry, the old Delco Board, was started by a Vendor.  The UAMCC was also started by a Vendor too. As long as any Vendor who is on the board of the RCIA discloses it, and is treated just like any other Vendor, do you still see a Conflict ?

Huge conflict if a vendor has any input as to what the RCIA molds as its certification requirements or public stance on how Professional roof cleaning should be done. Any input by a vendor with a profit motive, in the end, may not support what a Contractor Based Org decides is BMP for Roof Cleaning and cast vote against or sway others to adopt different methods. Vendors role in any org that claims to be for the contractor should remain as advertisor only. No editorial functions at all when writing the policies or certifications. It will certainly be interesting to see how the certifications are written as well as RCIA's public stance on what it suggests to potential customer on what fits as a qualified professional roof cleaner.

Mike and all else with this concern,

Actually I voted a couple months ago that the RCIA not do certs. It opens the RCIA up to allot of liability. I didn't want to see the RCIA get mired down in lawsuits etc so I voted against it. We don't have airs and omissions insurance yet! We can be held liable for accidents or damages done by certified cleaners! Untill we have that worked out it would be irresponsible to do certs.

Now last month the board met again and the motion was set forth to create an exploratory committee to look at starting certs again. I did vote to form that exploratory committee. I feel it would be good for us to educate ourselves on what is absolutely needed to do the cert thing right. Not just 100 posts and a phone test. That kind of cert puts the RCIA at risk.

Before I was a vendor I was a contractor for 18 years. Aside from Chris Tucker there probably no one that has more knowledge and experience in this industry as I. Why wouldn't you want that experience being put to work in the infancy of the RCIA?

Keep this in mind.....................sit back and watch the org being built. Trust me the people serving the membership of the RCIA in these capacities would much rather be fishing or something like that. But we are serving the org in an effort to leave a legacy that will stand the test of time.

"Judge a tree by it fruits"

Thanks,

AC

." Not just 100 posts and a phone test. That kind of cert puts the RCIA at risk."

so will everyone new member/old member be held to the same standard to be qualified ?

in other words if I want to be become certified with rcia and you have to go a training school like delco or other schools and the cost is 500-1500 will Rcia require their exsisting members to this as well....to be certified ?
