Travis;
AC has a course. Its his wilderness training package. It also includes a business plan you were looking for. Contact him for details. Its not cheap, but from what I've heard, its worth it.

Train yourself Travis, once you get all your equipment find an easy roof to do (family, friend etc)
Don't use SH the first few times, just water and dawn or some surfactant. Get the hang of spraying really well then eventually ad the love. Familarize yourself with your equipment and you'll be fine.
Your a member too so you have those resources. If along the way you encounter problems or questions post them and I'm sure you'll get help from the vets here.

Or if you can afford it ask AC about his course, last he and I spoke he said they'll be offering a 5 day course at the delux facility in ft worth, tx. If I remember correctly he said it'd be $2500 for the course and it'd teach anyone new everything they needed to know about operating equipment etc.

Travis, people here have offered to train you for free. One guy said he would even pay you while you worked with him. What happened?

+1 Chris of DirtyShingles.Com

Ace - I believe that was me.  I'm a long haul from Travis and sadly things are slowing down here quickly as the weather changes.

I'm pretty sure an RCIA member in a warmer climate (ie longer season) would like to have you along to help for a while Travis.  I'd say come on to DC, but we may not have any roofs lined up when you get here, or this Indian Summer could be over quickly.

You've got mail bud.  We just need the American-ProTech phone to start ringing again.. it got VERY quiet here in the last week or so.  We might be done for the season, as much as I hate to admit it.

AC's course paid for itself in chemical savings alone.  Let alone all of the rest of the info he taught and gave me.  He cuts time off of what it takes to build a buisness.  No trial or error, just the facts man.roof cleaning

AC will come to you as part of his wilderness course. He'll help you directly in your own market. If you can afford it I'd definitely take these guys advice and go for it! I'd first work on getting all the equipment together though.

Travis,

I live in Orlando! My Wilderness Excursion is 10% roof cleaning techniques and 90% business and marketing. Delus Cleaning Supply will be offering a 5 day Roof and SoftWash School soon and will be considerably less than my 4 day package.

Thanks,

AC

Travis, all the training offered is a wonderful idea and Scott's is offered free. The trick is what can you afford at this stage. If you are not starting till '11 keep studying on both sides of the fence, business/roofs. I'll bet there is all kinds of info in the college library. Also, OJT is a wonderful thing!!!

AC spoke of a dvd course before I think? I'd be interested in that! Or go to Florida when work picks back up, and money flowing freely again! Take that course!

We used to offer a paid spray course here, but I have stopped it to focus on RCIA and PWNA training courses and also Deluxe's training courses. The opportunity Ted is offering is the best for you right now. It will require you to make a commitment that won't break your wallet but still cost you in time and travel. This kind of action will help solidify your position as a serious business person to yourself. If you are already going the owner operator route than spray training is what you need. Pick up all the business experience you can in and out of the industry.
I hope you try these free methods to help you better understand what your doing and what you can be doing.

Contact and become familiar with your local SBA
Join you free Score chapter
Write a business plan
Go work with Ted

and..Once you have some money.
Subscribe to Forbes, and Cleaner Times
Join your chamber of commerce
Take an educational marketing or cleaning course
Take an intro economics and business marketing course at your local community college

For now working with an experienced executive like Ted will teach you a ton of knowledge, you can expand on those kind of relationships by joining Score and the COC. Here you will meet more executives that already know how to make $$$. Your business can be fun and all that, but in the end it needs to build you a retirement, health care, paycheck, college fund, kids first cars etc.... Focus on these thing early and learning to understand their value will skyrocket your success.

Go get em Travis!

LOL, I didn't read the whole thread. I think you should work with Scott as well and still meet Ted. Scott is an example of exactly what you are trying to achieve in a few short years. Motivated and dedicated at a young age, Scott can help you overcome the hurtles that come with inexperience. I wish I could have had the ability he has at his age, for I would be much further along. You should still meet Ted as he has some excellent executive experience that can lead to more advanced problem solving and business management advice.
This experience will lead to you making more educated choices of were to spend your dollars to grow your business. Get them while they are free!!!

Hopefully spray training class will be for your employees and you can focus on more business consulting from your network. Training with AC is great as he knows how a larger roof cleaning biz should work. In the end not one person but your network of advisers and mentors will grow your ability to run a successful endeavor. Some will be free and some will be paid. Some people you learn from will be like family or friends, some you learn from will be people you will never meet or never like to meet. The point is to recognize success and feed your own off of it. Recognize failure and learn from it as well. And if you make mistakes then, Do not let failure be an end, but a step, a lesson towards success.

Travis, man, what a great opportunity. It sounds like you are motivated to take on this challenge and learn from some of the best in the industry. I'm sure many of us would have loved these opportunities before starting this journey, which is most certainly built (or broken) by trial and error.
