I use the gray non marking too.  Here is a tip I use to keep my hands from getting marked up and rolling the hose up faster.  I bought a car wash mitt.  I squirt a little dawn and wather on it then roll up my hose. It not only makes the hose slide through my hand easier, but cleans the hose while it is winding up.
