You can gross the highest number is the world, but if you don't profit, gross means nothing.

Nobody really know anything about anybody on this board. You can look the part and speak the part, but that doesn't mean you do the part. Don't get fooled into thinking people are the be all and end all in roof cleaning because of what you read on this board. Make yourself the best company in your area. If you are keeping busy and are getting enough referrals that you can't keep up with the work then I would say you are very successful. I have seen guys say they are the greatest company in the world only to find out that they are nothing more than low ball hacks. Don't get caught up in all of that. Instead, get caught up in being your own best company.

Brian

I love it when you post Brian :)

This was a great answer and at the same time, I do get why you asked and agree with Scott.

Brian there is only one part I have to disagree with.

If you only hang out on the board than you know little of the contractors here, but some of us have been working to make this industry stronger and better and we have gotten to know each other off the boards.  Brian is one of those people.  By phone calls and private meetings and more recently by meeting at roundtables.  If you want to really get involved in this industry and you wnat to know who you are dealing with than pay attention to the new membership as it grows and changes.  Become involved in your education and your industry.  Meet us at events in your area when we send out reps.  That will tell you who we are and who you are in this industry that desperatlly needs a strong community like this one to grow.

My company is 6 years old and we serve the entire state of MD for roof cleaning.  We are shooting for 250 residential roofs this year in an area were Gleoeocapsa magma appeared arounfd 2005.

Since I started roof cleaning with these methods tought to me by people such as Jeff and Chris my business has grown tremendously.

I cannot give exact numbers or profit margines here in the public for my customers to see, but I can say we doubled income last year and have almost doubled that this year as well.  Our profit margine has increased over this time as well.  Most of what we do and learned came form communicating in the industry.  From the boards to the shows and networking with succesfull people we have gained tremendously.

Now I try to help give back what was taught to me, but more than that I want to help this industry grow.  The hardest part of the cleaning industry is lack of customer awareness.

Top 5 roof cleaning companies of all time! Based on gross dollars and on roofs cleaned?????????????????

1. Mallard Systems / TerraClean, Stopped counting in 2003 at 50,000 roofs. Gross dollars about 25 million since 1992.

2. This would be a toss up between Apple and Roof to Deck. I know Mike Hilborne has been doing this since 1995 and has grossed in excess of one mill every year and in the last decade did over 2 mil most years. He also is the wood king so that accounts for much of his dollars.

3. Chris Tucker with Apple. He may not have the gross numbers that Mike Hilborne has but he has the roofs cleaned number locked in for sure. As the founder of the RCIA he has personally cleaned more roofs than I. That is why 2 and 3 are neck and neck.

4. ARB, American Roof Brite, Atlanta Ga. Probably the most successful roof cleaning franchise system that was. Im not sure how strong they are now but at one time they were pumping out clean roofs through small owner operators in the thousands.

5. Roof Life / Shingle Care. Started by John Heffernen in the 80's in Cocoa Florida this company took a stab at franchising. Grew some and at one time was my chief competition. Something happened and it fell apart. One of his franchises Rudolph Rucker "Orlando, FL" started to draw up the old network under a new name Shingle Care and tried to hold it all together and sell new distributorships and chemicals. They had to have done thousands as well.

From all of my experience and knowings (which at times are horribly flawed :) these are my top 5 pix for the biggest roof cleaning companies Nation Wide as I remember it.

Thanks,

AC

Pick a name. Any name, it doesn't matter. Call it Baird roof and exterior cleaning, then start signing up for the free Internet advertising and get your seo ready for the spring. You can do all this before buying even 1 piece of equipment or doing 1 job. But at least you have a presence before your season starts. And yes, this can be done without a website.

I'm going to change my name to...Confident Roof Cleaning of Raleigh, NC.

I've said it before. and I'll say it again, when this guy (Brian) posts, read carefully.  Especially you newer folk.  I've never met the man, yet his words are as sound, if not more sound that anyone else on here.  Jeff/PA may give a run for the money in the 'straight up' department.   Brian or Jeff - if American-ProTech can ever be of assistance to either of you, please call.  We're not that far away.

Respectfully,
Ted
