Ammonyx Lo opinion after doing about 40 tile roofs with it.

Hello friends!
Well, back when Ammonyx Lo was first discussed here, I got a gallon from Lori.
I liked it, but needed more to form a good opinion.
I have since used about 30 gallons of it and wouldn't care to go back to watching the LOVE mix run off the barrel tile roofs, like it does without Ammonyx Lo.
I started out using 1/2 gallon to 100 gallon mixes of 45% SH 55% water.
I now use 3/4 - 1 gallon to 100 gallons. It depends on the pitch and if it's glazed or rough.
I also tried Ammonyx M and put 1/2 gallon in 100 and saw no improvement over Ammonyx Lo. Ammonyx M is much harder to mix thouroughly I feel.
I'm not dismissing M I guess, I may just need to try more of it, like I did the Lo.
I've learned a lot here, even though I have been in this business a long time! One thing I learned here that I really like, is about buying roof cleaning and pressure cleaning supplies from PWP. Lori and her Dad are TOP NOTCH! We even get a discount for being RCIA members from her! smile

I agree with you.  However I only use about 1 pint to 100 gallons.  Did you see a drastic change when you went to 1 gallon?

One thing I have noticed is that if you use the solution the next day, it is weaker.

If you ad a pint 8 oz of Green Apple & a pint of Ammonx Mo, the solution is almost dead the next day.

So if you are going to use it then you had better use it all that day or loose it.doh

1 pint? I started out with 1/2 gallon, but it wasn't thick enough and didn't stay wet long enough for me.
If I was doing shingled roofs, 1 pint might be OK?
My main interest in Ammonyx is to use less of my total chlorine mix up at a time. If it's thickened with enough Ammonyx, it doesn't run off barrel tile roofs like water. It sticks and slides down little by little. So, in the end, a roof that would take a 60 gallon mix of just SH & H20 only requires maybe 40-50 gallons of SH/H20 & a gallon of Ammonyx. I've tested in working jobs with my son on the roof and me watering plants. I started him off with a mix that had 1/2 gallon and 1/4 way through the tile roof, added another 1/2 gal Ammonyx and it sure slowed the runoff flow down and did a better job of cleaning the 1st time through [less had to be hit a 2nd time.} In my area, I do almost all tile roofs and very seldom get shingled roofs here.
I have left 40-50 gallons in my 100 gallon tank mixed with up to a gal of Ammonyx for 3 days and did not feel it was weakened by the Ammonyx.
I have not used scents in my mix-just 35-50% SH and a half to 1 gallon Ammonyx and H20 per 100 gallon tank.

I appreciate your post Charles.  I was misinformed when I was told, & used only 1 pint per 00 gal.  I will immediately test it with 1 gal / 100 gal.  I was a little disappointed when I saw it sill run off still...

Marcus, is that right?  You find that it is almost dead?  Does anyone else have the same experience?

Have you isolated the chemical?  Is it the M or the Apple?

I have heard this about three times out of many, many samples and such.

If this is the case, I don't want to support something that is going to kill a mix when it was supposed to be stable.

I want to hear your thoughts.

Are you using alcohol to heat up your mix of Love. That will kill the batch if it`s left for a couple of days.

I use alcohol in my mix each time and find that it kills the love by the next day. It really could be my SH though. Sometimes I wonder how fresh it is. Very inconsistant. I've never tried the Ammonx lo. Real steep pitch roofs here run off is usually a big problem. I'll have to try some.

I don't believe that Ammonyx Lo interacts with chlorine in a negative manner.
Alcohol / TSP / Dawn and lots of other chemicals certainly will and you will see a noticeable weakening of the SH if left unused for a day or more.

I know it`s the alcohol. Here is the test. Mix your bleach & any surfactant first, you will have bubbles, then put in the alcohol & the bubbles disappear.

The alcohol makes the surfactant and the chlorine mix together better, this is what you are seeing.

I mixed a batch of SH, H20 and Ammonyx Lo and the SH was still active after about two weeks.  At the same time I mixed a batch with SH H20 Ammonyx LO and Alcohol and the SH was not active at all, and the mix lost its SH color.  The mix was more of a milky white.  Has anyone noticed this.

biggrin Chuck biggrin Not Charles no
Just remember, you don't have to shoot automatically up to a gallon. Try 1/2 - 1 gallon depending on pitch, glazed or unglazed [glazed tile runs off faster=no obsorbtion] and how algae infested a roof may be. It just takes practice and you will know how much to use when you look at the roof to bid it.

Lori, it is the green apple.   Several times I have taken an extra 35 gallons of SH in a 35 gal drum with 4 oz of Green Apple in it to a job as an extra.  If my solution needs a little more SH I pump into my roof cleaning tank.  The next day what is left in the 35 gal drum will not even clean a house when injected through a power washer with a 20% injector.

My chemicals normaly have a shelf life of about 2 weeks this time of year in 75 deg weather.

Green Apple has its place do not get me wrong but it definitely degrades SH and should be injected downstream of the SH.  I believe that AC is working on such an injector and may already have it installed on the rigs that he is selling.

I'm not dismissing M I guess, I may just need to try more of it, like I did the Lo.

Lets us know your final opinion.

So I'm guessing for asphalt shingles it's just simpler and easier to use dawn as a surfactant instead of messing with am lo. Not many tiled or slate roofs up here.
