An add-on or a freebie?

Recent roof, job.  The electrical service riser was totally rusted, staining the roof and looking like chit.

Nothing a can of rustoleum and 5 minutes won't fix.

The question is,  Add-on or Freebie?

What do you guys think.  I will entertain any comments, as I greatly value the the knowledge and experience you all share.

After I hear some responses from you experienced Roof Cleaners I will tell you what I my thougts were.

Going the extra mile always goes a long way. If you have the time and the freebie is within reason, sure why not? Especially when you have that super gracious customer it's a real charm to do something extra.

I do freebie work all the time. Simple way to show customers you appreciate the work,...not to mention they will voice it to others,..so it's a win, win.
Just this past week I cleaned out some gutters for an older lady and  cleaned a walk-way for a woman selling her house. No big deal really,...shows your humanitarian side.

I totally agree bout giving "free" services away. Its good biz practice. Just let the customers know what you are doing!

Perfect example is if there is a small patio that the love is going to hit. Why not just spread the sauce around a little more and fully clean it? Customers are thrilled you went over and above what you said you'd do. PLus, I've gotten more than a few driveway cleanings after they see how good their concrete cleans up.

I agree with Jeff. If it wasn't for that customer you wouldn't have work to think about a freebie or not.

I did it as a freebie, The customer was very pleased with the overall result and our work. When I gave her the invoice, she said she wanted to pay more since we did a great job and did more than she expected, so she wrote a check for the invoice and gave us a some nice crisp cash.
The return on that $3.50 can of paint is great and I still have a can that is almost full.

The responses so far are what I expected from all of the roof cleaning professionals here, my thought was a small extra touch will pay off in the end,

I keep 3 cans of paint on the truck at all times. White, black, and bronze gutter and aluminum paint.

I always come across places on the downspouts or gutter or wherever that are scratched, peeling or whatnot. I just spray the spot in question and move on. half of them notice, half don't.

The ones that do always appreciate it.
