RCIA is proud to announce a paid membership!!

Hello Forum members,

For some time the RCIA has had discussions of moving forward with a paid membership.

We are proud to announce that this membership is now enacted after a unanimous vote from the executive board of directors.

All members that are currently registered on the RCIA forum will have a 1 month grace period ending on the first of November.  After this date all members who are active on the forum or who want RCIA representation and advice will be paid members.

The cost of membership is currently $100 per year and includes a welcome package.

Checks to be payable to Roof Cleaning Institute of America.
In the near future we will have easier payment methods.

This paid membership will allow the RCIA members to have a voice and vote in the writing of the industry standard.
It will also allow a chance to become an RCIA representative at events and gatherings were we can promote the RCIA standards to our customers.

This does not constitute a closed forum at this point, this and other topics are still being addressed and a plan of action for each concept will be laid in place over the following few months.

At this point we are no longer writing new certifications, and all current certifications will still be valid until the last day of 2011 at which point a renewal or new certification process will be in place.

Nice, Bill! Sounds like a step in the right direction. Looking forward to sending in my hundred bucks.

So, what happens for us uncertified guys? You are no longer offering certification? Maybe I read it wrong.

Thanks

For now until we hash out how it's going to work, we will not create any newly certified members.

I agree this is a positive step. But for those of us who do spend the $100 for membership, will people who dont pay still be able to access the information on this site?
I am happy to pay $100 for what I have and will learn, but I feel with that I should be able to access "privilaged" information. This doesnt stop hacks from learning how to clean roofs and then splitting.

i am not understanding the closed forum part. If everyone dosent pay by the 1st of november will they be deleted as a member? also how long does any new members that sign up have to pay. Is it right away or do they get a grace period. Becuase if its right away then this is basically a closed forum.

Thanks for making the move forward in the right direction.

I thought we had a paid membership before. $10 per year paid to "membership payment options" at the bottom of the RCIA home page. I'm all for the increase in fees to cover costs, but why not just change the amount on the system you already have in place?

I also think we need to be more specific in telling members what the consequence is for not sending in their membership dues. Will they be "kicked off" the site? If this will not be a closed forum, why would they care?

I was looking to get certified before 2012? I would like to know what the new certification process is and a timeline to achieve it.

There are alot of questions and things to figure out and be fair about.

I paid $100 a lil after I got certified and have paid the $10 mentioned earlier. Would I be required to pay the $100 again? If so I would.

I'd be glad to pay the $100.00. I've learned so much in less than 6 months cleaning roofs that I would be a fool not to!

Or is it like buying (and paying) for a year subscription for a magazine, then after two months, they send you a bill (for an increase) to receive the magizine for the rest of the year.

You are correct that it does not stop hacks to keep the board public.  The board is still public for now and decisions are being made of how to protect the information better.  We should have a solid solution by spring and many good concepts on how to do it are being discussed.

They may or may not be deleted as a member.  That has been one suggestion we are considering.  A new section for voting on RCIA business is underway and this will be for members only.  Remember the forum is only one small part of what we are doing here.  Any new member will have to pay immediatly.  Please be patient and see that this is a work in progress.

Many of the things we want to do with the forum in particular are going to require a new platform or for activeboard to allow us to reright their software, either way we need thousands of dollars to change this platform.

Bruce, as I stated above the new guidlines for certification are in the works.  The new process and if we will even be the ones to adminster it are in question at the board meetings.  We will update the community as new devolpments about certification are released.

The existing $10 a year button was more of a test than anything and will be changed as you suggest if we still want to use it.  We still have to link it to our RCIA account and set up an official RCIA paypal attached to that account.

People who recently donated their $100 will be retro rated in their first year.  If you made your donation more than 3 months ago than thank you for the donation, it helped get us to this point.

Please do not take this the wrong way guys, I have donated thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours and I also paid my new membership fees.  We offered a discount at the show as people are paying a lot to be at the shows.  All the efforts of those who donated are greatly appreciated, but they were donations, not member dues.

yes it can be spun that way.  I think most people here can agree that a donation is just that.  it helped build the RCIA to what it is now and we thank all of you for that.  If you already paid your $10 we will deduct it off your membership as the $10 was a membership fee.

Prices may increase for the year, but no we will not add new fees to you every two months :)

Just to reiterate.

Members will have a chance to vote on industry standards.
Members will have a chance to be represented and represent RCIA.

A member of the RCIA is not the same as a member on the forum. For this exact moment new people can join the forum and not pay, but they will be locked out of the industry changes and will not be considered RCIA members. The forum is just one thing of many we do.

By this spring we will lock non members out of the forum or at least have a clear answer as to what part of the forum is public.

Members will potentially be ale to help work on this process as well

Bill and all the other RCIA Board members please do not take this the wrong way, but I think you are not going about this the right way.  I am all for an association with dues and in fact I contributed $100 upon my certification.  It appears to me that a decision to collect dues was made without really having a plan in place to know if $100 per year is the right number.  Are by-laws written so members will know how the association will be operated?  Will financial reports be issued to members?  Will there be a members only section?  I'm sure I could come with other questions.

You state that a solid solutuon should be in place by spring.  IMO a solid solution should be in place before member dues are collected.

Believe me I am all for a more organized association where members pay dues.  I just think the Board owes the members a complete plan before you ask for mandatory dues.

Charles
