I will give it a try next season (a little more than 2 months left here in PA) but for the remainder of this year, I wanted to try something different.

ANY Gelled Liquid dishwasher soap using Sodium Hypochlorite in it works great! READ the bottle, make SURE it has the SH in it! IF it has the SH in it, you can be sure the surfactant is chlorine stable. This used to be a closely guarded secret taught only to certified roof cleaners, once you became certified! But the Apple Butter is better, so it is time to make this known. Apple Butter is generically known as Myristamine Oxide, and is sold by some of our distributors here at RCIA, and can also be had in larger sizes from chemical companies. Big Lots has the right dishwasher soap in an orange bottle, and so does Sams Club in a green bottle. There are gelled, and non gelled versions to be had, both work well. If you have a choice, choose the gelled version. Our tanks hold 300 gallons, we used 6 to 8 gallons per 300 gallons total mix, so thats about 1 gallon to 1 1/2 gallons to every 50 gallons of the dishwasher soap with chlorine(sodium hypochlorite) in it. The stuff from Big Lots has an orange smell to it.
We once dumped 16 gallons in a 300 gallon tank to see if it would help the smell ?
It did not, and that much imparted a noticeable film on the roof tiles, that went right away after a good rain. Unlike the Apple Butter, it is a low sudsing detergent by design. After all, Momma don't want a bunch of soap suds coming out of the dishwasher
So, it does not have the customer pleasing abundance of suds like Apple Butter does.
Warning - Do NOT clean one roof with Apple Butter, and the neighbors roof w/o it!
Your roof cleaning customers will complain that their roof did not suds up like their neighbors did, and think you ripped them off!

I ran out of ammonyx lo this week and went back to Dawn soap. It's night and day between the two. I just ordered ten gals of ammonyx lo yesterday from Lori.

Me too, I have used Tide and Purex before, in a pinch. The Gel automatic diswasher detergent that contains sodium hypochlorite was just about the best stuff I have found you can easily buy most anywhere.
