What type of mask do most people use for SH or do they use one?  Cleaned our first 2 houses and beginning to wonder if I need something better.

I use one with double filters made by 3m! I bought them at home depot and get the filters at a paint store for extra filterig for chemicals, ie paint n stuff. they work great.

Go to the home page then scroll down and click on the Roof clenaing Safety link.
It has awesome Safety info and is not too crowded with other stuff so you can understand what you need and maybe help develop your own techniques that work for you

But to answer your question a good mask is a 3M Mercury/Chlorine Gas Respirator Cartridge is used with 3M Half and Full Gas Masks 6000 Series and 3M Half and Full Gas Masks 7000 Series with bayonet style cartridge holders.

Always keep you mask dry when you are done and get mask wipes or baby wipes and use them! This is very important.

Keep it clean!

I just got a 3M 7513(large) half-mask from toolsmart.com $35 delivered; it has silicone face "seal" it FEELS great and SEALS great with E-Z breath valve, the straps are kinda cheap but are in good comfort able/functional locations I LOVE IT.came with a 6001 filter(organic vapor). Found 6003 (organic vapor/acid gas) with chlorine rating for 8bucks a pair on-line. they have a 3year shelf life, I'll get 2 (4.75 shipping) and have a spare when I need it. Toolsmart might swapout cartridges if you ask. 6009 is the mercury vapor/chlorine filter.

Bill Booz is teaching a class in Charleston, SC the end of September on roof cleaning safety and will be going over that and will have samples at that event. Go to the NCE, national cleaning expo's website and sign up for the event!

Make sure you are getting a good seal and enough air, You don't want to be creating too much water vapor. while your online get yourself a "mask fitting kit."

This is required by law, most janitorial supply companies will fit your mask for you for a small fee. You are better off getting your own kid and the know how to do so.

Some people can fail the test and be unable to wear certain masks so they have to either find a new mask suitable for this or find a new profession,lol.
