Do a search of this site, I wrote extensive descriptions on how to do the wiring, even provided diagrams. This week I am giving Lori a complete hook up (truck to trailer) and trailer to battery. Contact PWP they will have the stuff you need.

I use a marine trolling boat battery charger called an XPS 4/4 that I bought from a company called Outdoor World. It charges at full charge when you 1st plug it in. After it becomes charged (14.6 volts) it drops to a trickle chage so that you will not over charge the battery. This helps to desulfate the battery there by prolonging its life expectancy. It can even charge 2 batteries at the same time. You can read more about it at www.promariner.com Having been an electrical engineer I highly recommend it.
Hooking your battery up to your vehicles alternator will overcharge the battery shortening it expected life. I agree, that is the easiest way but not the best.
The 12volt pumps draw NO more current than the average AMP that a lot of people install on their steros. Why does everyone try to make a big deal out of this. Wire the pump to your vehicle battery and let the vehicle recharge it on the way to the next job. I run a diesel truck with 2 batteries (common for diesels) I have run my fatboy and my "moving message" sign, running off a power inverted, for over 5 hours at a job, and it started right up. Cost of wire is less than $10.00.
I still put my deep cycle bat on charge in the evening. Its a computerized charger. I put it on trickle charge and it fully charged next morning. I think I paid 60 for it. I'd like to know more about hooking up to truck charger. Been hearing about it a while now. Maybe in Tampa someone can draw me a picture???
you know its no different than my dump trailer that is how i dump it staight to my truck battery and it runs fine. so that little 12v pump will not hurt it at all. and you might have to change your harness.
On the newer 7-wire trailer plugs there is a wire that is hot so you can use that as a charging circuit, just have to identify that wire, make sure that you have a good fuse in the panel in the truck for that cicuit to be used (mine did not have a fuse in there) and wire the hot to the battery and the ground from what I understand.
This way as long as you are driving or connected to the truck your battery will be getting charged unless I am mistaken. I think that is how Scott D has his connected.
Right now my marine battery for my hose reel is connected to one of those little chargers that I connect to an extension cord and charge overnite when needed which is like once a month or less. Using the Fatboy or other Delavan will use a lot more electricity than an electric hose reel so I think that the wiring through the trailer is a great idea.

Forgot to mention that the little charger I got from Tractor Supply was about $29.00 and is made to not-over charge the battery.

I have a 20amp charger. I was told that by wireing though the truck it will over charge it and the alternator will go out faster and bacause it is having to work harder

Ironically, I had my radio running the other day during a job because they had no outdoor outlets and my truck wouldn't start after we were done. I figured what the hey and was able to jump my truck with my DC Marine 700 cold cranking battery.
