I was trying to look up GAF warranty issues and I was surprised to find out that according to GAF we are all misinformed about the reason for the black streaks mold and algae growth.   wink   

Mainly aesthetics...hummmmm
Lack of granules on a 10 year old roof with a 30 year warranty...why?
I did not hear the word limestone & I was thinking limestone?

Bob

It's a shingle company trying to sell you on a new roof. Sure they are going to say that algae, mold, fungus, moss, etc growth is mainly aesthetics. Notice they didn't offer any advice on cleaning the roof. They just want to homeowner to let the "aesthetic" condition remain until they have the granule loss. Then they can replace the roof.

It's our job to educate the homeowner to the problems that can occur when they let "aesthetic" conditions go unchecked.

Here are a couple of 12 year old CertainTeed roofs we cleaned this week.  doh

I have always wanted to nail Joanne Liebler roof cleaning
Seriously, they can't admit that Algae damages shingles, think about it ?
If they did, when their Algae Resistant Shingles get infested, customers will Sue them for loss of roof life !

The sound is a bit messed up on the video rip.



Re Video: It's like they cut out the middle part where they say the algae/cyanobacteria is eating the roof, and THAT's why you don't have granules.

But then, I guess the manager came in and said WHAT WHAT tell them to call their roofing contractor.
