Mainly the shingle warranty customer calling us.

These algae resistant shingles are guaranteed to stay clean for a number of years by the roofing manufacturers. They do not always do so, especially here in the Tampa Florida area.

TamKo asks the customer to get three quotes. Then the customer send them in for approval. Tamko then avarages the three together and mails a coupon to the customer for the cleaning in the ammount of the average. Then the customer is responsible for contracting with the cleaning company.

Once the roof is clean the customer pays using the coupon. Then the roof cleaning company submits the coupon to Tamko for payment. This keeps the manufacturers customer from just pocketing the funds to clean the roof.

Before GAF bought ELK Shingles Mallard Systems used to do about $200,000.00 a year just with ELK. Now that is all GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE.

Other companies also ask you to take a before and after pic of the roof.

TerraClean gets a commercial warranty claim every now and then. Few and far between with this economy.

I keep having customers talk about calling the roofing shingle manufacturers but most never do. We certainly clean the shingle warranties if it happens though.

GAF charging for investigations now! If you read it carefully it WILL include getting Roofs Cleaned! They are tightening the belt on any claims. So you will need to be sure you are can back up a claim with a $500.00 fee if they refuse to warranty the roof for whatever reason they have. This is a new addition for the warranty and risky for the homeowner to take the chance to file a claim.
Any thoughts???

NOTE: Notice to your contractor or dealer is NOT notice to GAF.
In the event of a leak through your Low Slope Roof System or to file a claim on your Steep Slope Roof System (collectively, your Claim,) you must make sure that GAF is notified directly about your Claim, in writing within 30 days of discovery by email (preferred) at guaranteeservices@gaf.com or in writing to Guarantee Services Department,
1361 Alps Road, Bldg. 11-1, Wayne, New Jersey 07470, or GAF will have no responsibility under this guarantee. By notifying GAF, you authorize GAF to investigate your
Claim. If the investigation reveals that your Claim is not covered by this Guarantee, you agree to pay an investigation cost of $500. This Guarantee will be cancelled if you fail to pay this cost within 30 days of receipt of an invoice for it. Within a reasonable time after proper notification, GAF will evaluate your Claim and resolve it in accordance
with the terms of this guarantee. GAF may require you to submit, at your expense, sample roofing products for testing and photographs.
Preventative Maintenance and Repairs

A. In order to maximize the trouble-free performance of your roofs, you must perform regular inspections and maintenance and keep records of this work.
B. To keep this guarantee in effect, you must repair any conditions in the building structure or roofing system that are not covered by this guarantee but that GAF concludes may be threatening the integrity of either Roofing System (e.g., porous walls allowing water entry into the roofing system).

C. You may make temporary repairs to minimize damage to the building or its contents in an emergency, at your sole expense. These repairs will not result in cancellation of the All-American Pledge Guarantee as long as they are reasonable and customary and do not result in permanent damage to either Roofing System.

D. Any equipment or material that impedes any inspection or repair must be removed at your expense so that GAF can perform inspections or repairs.
No representative, employee or agent of GAF has the authority to assume any additional liability or responsibility for GAF, except in writing signed by an authorized GAF Contractor Services Manager or Director. NOTE: Any inspections made by GAF are limited to a surface inspection only, are for GAF’s sole benefit, and do not constitute a waiver of any of the terms and conditions of this guarantee.

Sure enough, I got a call from him today saying that Temko is going to pay me to clean it. I guess this guy bought alge-free shingles and they got mold on them within their time frame. He had to send in 2 of his shingles and get a roof cleaner to give an estimate and them to okay it...

Of course, I don't know if the ins company paid the homeowner, but both said their shingled roofs were supposed to be algae free for at least 7 years I believe?

BRB... I am going out to do a maintenance check-up on my roof to keep an accurate record of it just in case I need to make a claim in the future.  confuse
