Got a chance to clean a slate roof. From what I can find shingle roof mix should work well. I am able to shoot it from from a ladder to keep off the slate.
Are you guys rinsing off the roof? Should I expect to treat 2-3 times? Moss is not too bad, but in need of a good cleaning. Also gutters are copper I think. I am sure this will take more time, due to the amount of cleaning, but I would love to hear some advice on quoting and cleaning compared to shingles. I have not been able to find much info on slate.
Thanks, Noll

Thats going to make for some great before and afters. My only advise for slate is that if you use TSP normally, dont on this one. It will leave a noticable film on slate.

I agree with my friend Scott Use ONLY Chlorine/Water on a slate roof, forget the Dawn, TSP, just Chlorine/Water. Slate is weird, soaps, TSP, etc, etc, can discolor it, and leave a very noticeable film, why take that chance ?
Thanks for the advice!! I will keep the soap out. Would you also cut out the ISO too? I figured that would only help. Guess I should count on using a bunch more mix. Some of the tile is on the face of the dormers. I can't wait to see the finished result. Rinse?? I don't normally, but should I on slate?

Does the SH stick to the roof ok with only using sh and water ?
Not really as well as using a thickener, but slate is a weird animal. I would rather waste some chemical with run off then take the chance of the slate looking weird from surfactants, and TSP. We respect slate roofs, and use a rather weak solution to clean them. IF we have to spray em twice, so be it, don't want to risk using really strong chemical mix on them. You think a Tile Roof is expensive to replace, try slate ?

Ed, I just landed my first slate roof and I was told not to use soap because it leaves a film on the slate. They sugguested using a weak mix. Should I rinse after cleaning? The roof is 70 years old and has a lot of moss and algae.

Nice first slate job, lets us know how it goes. Post some twitter pics, I know you will.
