I was just doing a search this morning on " Roof cleaning company's " in Minnesota and this is what came up . I proceeded to look at the web site which states and I quote."You can hire a professional company like Shingle CareTM that offers several roof-cleaning services designed to meet your needs and budget. You can clean your roof yourself and save labor costs but you need to think twice about that decision. Is it worth the risk of falling or damaging the roof to save a few dollars? You can purchase commercial grade roof cleaners at The Home Depot or Lowes’ or use bleach or pool chlorine, but these methods can leave you with a streaked roof, dead shrubbery and grass. Due to environmental and safety concerns, chlorine is not recommended. (Chlorine has no cleaning capabilities at all, it is only a bleach, and results are very temporary). They say to use a product called shingle care !! What are your thoughts. Are they from FL.

I just found shingle guard online, it is just anouther product bashing the RCIA way of roof cleaning, they all sound the same. sh is bad, we have a product that is good and with our maitnence program you will have no more streaks, oh and we use a high volume low pressure rinse to clean your roof, you can believe it or not. I don't the RCIA way is the only way.

To be perfectly fair, most of those cleaners dont hurt the plants. Renew, the stuff sold by the makers of the Pitch witch can be poured directly into a plant with no damage.

My biggest competitor here uses a pitch witch and he does a really good job. Ive seen his roofs 5 years later and they still look good.

I dont like or agree with that method, but it does work and doesnt really cause damage. The problem is it just takes so damn long to clean a roof like that.

It's all in fairness. We cant complain about them bashing us, and then bash them. We are all just small business owners making a living. The rhetoric back and forth is necessary to make us stand out, so I definately dont take offense to it. My competitor I was talking about takes shots at us on his site, and vise versa, but he and I get along very well personally.

My theory is, just like in politics, if you dont have to watch your back, your not doing something right.

Chlorine is by far the most effective cross spectrum anti-microbial product in existance of this planet and there is no known bacterial resistance to it, unlike a whole host of other antibiotics. In fact you can even think of it AS an antibiotic.  The semantic language of his statement "it is only a bleach" is incorrect.

Amen to taking a long time to clean a roof! Then, guess what ? If that chit don't take the first time, ya got to re spray, and wait again! Or, crank up the pressure, and hope no one is looking cry

Roofs cleaned with a pressure washer, using a pitch witch, roof gitter or some other gadget here in NC don't last 5 years.

The climate in NC is much more humid than Texas.

Mold and streaks will start growing back in 3 years or less cleaned by this method.

I've had to go behind many competitors who promise customers 5 year warranties and their customers end up calling me to clean up their mess when their roof starts getting moldy and streaky in 2-3 years.

Yes, it is a myth that sodium hydroxide based cleaners keep roofs clean longer.
If THAT was the case, hospitals would be using it as a disinfectant, instead of bleach.
Another Myth is that putting a sealer on a roof will make it stay cleaner longer. Another pressure washing lie! Chit, mildew grows on windows, and pool cages, they have no pores. But for some reason, Armor All spilled on a roof or driveway seems to do the trick. I did a roof where the old womans roof was clean under a tree, dirty everywhere else.  her grandson was a car detalier, and coated the north part of roof with generic armorall. It was clean, 4 years later, under a tree! plus, where he spilled it on her driveway, the spots were clean, with mildew grows all around it. Weird Stuff!

Shingle Care use to advertise "No Damaging Chlorine" so I snapped a pic of them filling up at the local pool supply. I made $500k off that pic over the years!
