Happened to us today.  Had two of my guys on a job today.  Called and said the pump wouldn't start.  Told them to check the fuse.... Blown fuse.... new fuse.... same prob.  Switched out pump, finished the job.   Planing a post mortum on the pump tonight or tomorrow.  Anxious to see what went wrong.

By the way.  5850 with 1inch feed and 5/8 inch chem hose running through an accumulator with 30 tips.

Update... took the pump off line... hooked up straight to battery.... I can hear the pump turn a couple times then lock up... little smoke from wires.. unhook....going to get a replacement head and see if I can salvage it.

I would'nt waste my money. It's not the head, it's the armature corroded and rusted inside = done for!

Been there, done that a dozen times-to say the least!

Any way to keep that from happening?

No, not forever. However, if you always use the pump with the black plastic electronics facing down, you minimize what can run into the expensive motor. If you ruin anything, it will be the replacable head or just the demand switch.

I get twice and more the life out of my pumps by running them head down and by running 5+ gallons of water through after each use. Also, if you have a backup, or one stored, run car antifreeze through it and leave some right in there. It prevents corrosion etc.

Sure! I am not laying claim to the idea. I learned it right here at RCIA!

Looks like I'm going to change my layout and hang it motor up.  I have it lying flat right now 2" off the floor.  I did see some corrosion on the bottom of the motor when I took it out.

Exactly Lori.  1/2" hose, 1/2" poly guns, and nozzles smaller than #40 will cause premature failure.

For the 5850 pump use 5/8" output hose, 3/4"-1" intake hose, 3/4" ball valve, and #40 nozzle.  Use 10-14 gauge wire.
My 5850's last up to 2 years with no problems.
The black poly head will crack and leak after about 2 years.
Replacing just the upper housing (head) only costs around $30 I believe.  It's been a while since I ordered one.

Where can one purchase the upper house (head) for the Delevan?
