Hey Dan.

your mix ratio stays the same, you are just using a larger container!

Are taking the time to read other posts?

Read, learn and go clean Roofs!roof cleaning

it is...unless your doing alot of roofs that day. You may have a 200 gal tank, but do you need 200 gal of mix?

Just because its 200 gal., you can stil mix only 50 or 100 gal in your 200 gal tank. My last roof was 35 gal sh.

It is better to have a big tank than to have one that is not big enough.

u could clean the white house with 200 gallons! [lol] I have one of those huge totes [i think its like 300 gallons] and i only fill it based on the day's work. remember to try not to mix it until ur ready to use it, as when mixed the sh will begin to break down. this will be the case especially if u are using dishsoap and not ammonyx. im still using about 15 sh to 25 water. just multiply that until u get whatever amount u think u need. easy enough. good luck

One thing I wanted to add, was that there are multiple factors that go into the mixture you use. How hot is your Sh? How dirty are the roofs? How steep is the roof you are cleaning etc. I dont think the Sh we get here is as hot as it is in Florida, so I have to use a higher ratio. Plus when I was in Orlando a few weeks ago, I noticed that the algae was not as thick as it is here. Another reason I use a 50/50 mix. It may not be needed where you are.

It is a good idea to have a large tank for when you have a lot of roofs scheduled or a very large roof to clean that day.

I would not make up more mix than what you will use that day or in a few days because time, air, sunlight, soap, and water will start degrading the SH. Here after about a week the mix that is leftover will barely clean anything so I try to make up what I will use and if I have to make up a little bit more then that is ok because here I pay $2.58 on up per gallon. I wish it was like the Florida prices, around $1.00 to about $1.25 per gallon but it is a different part of the country and we don't have but a few places to get chemicals where in Florida you have a supplier within about a 10 minute drive in a lot of directions.

I like to keep the bulk SH separate from the mix so I have a bulk tank and a mix tank on the trailer (making up what I will use) so the bulk SH will stay strong as long as possible.

I have done most roofs with a 50/50 mix until I tried the Hang Tite from Lori at Pressure Washer Products, that stuff made the mix work better, dwell longer before running down and the overall effect was cleaning with less chemical which means more profit per job.

Thanks Lori.

A 50/50 mix is a big no no for a shingle roof, here in Florida. But our stuff is hot. We often need only 25 percent.  We dont even use that strong a mix for Tile Roofs. You want the weakest mix that will still clean, all things being equal.  It is no "sin" to have to go back and touch up a few spots that did not take, while you are still there. Contrary to what you think, overly strong chemical mixtures DO damage roofs! I have seen what strong chemical mixtures do to a roof in my early roof cleaning days, before I knew any better.  Our roof cleaning trucks have 2 tanks, one for tile roofs, one for shingle. In the beginning, I had only one tank, and 3 roofs to do one day, 2 tile, and one shingle. I was forced to do the shingle roof first !!!! I came back 3 years later, and SAW what it did ! Sure, strong chemical solutions clean faster, often in only one pass, with no touch ups.  But the roof cleaning chemical that cleans fastest, also kills plants fastest, and can even change the color of the Paint as it drips!

what happens when you use 60/40 and it doesn't clean well, does that mean the SH is weak?

are you saying never use 50/50?

what kind of damages can occur immediately and even three years later?

Easy Formula:

Determine how many gallons of love you'll need to do the job. Lets say it's 50 gallons total.

Take total amount (50 gallons) multiply by .40 This will tell you how many gallons of SH you need and the rest is water.

50 x .4 = 20 gallons of SH and 30 gallons of water. This is a 40/60 ratio and should clean most all jobs.

Lastly, if you don't use AMMOX and instead use DAWN....you can add 1oz for walkable roofs and 2oz for steep roofs, per each gallon of love.

Hope that helps.

I have been using 1 quart of the Ammonyx Lo per 50 gallons of roof mix for regular roofs but for the very steep roofs I add another 1/2 quart per 50 gallon mix.

I really like this Ammonyx Lo a lot better than using dawn or other surfactants because it seems to make the chemical cling better and it does not seem to weaken the mix so it cleans better and faster.

I like using a weaker mix as well,...in most cases it's strong enough. So I'm not above extra applications. I don't mind standing there talking to other potential customers while the weaker mix is doing it's thing. Getting it to stick and limiting runoff is the key I think to being able to use less SH. Easier to take care of surroundings as well.

I do bump it up on very heavy pitched roofs,...a weaker mix runs off to fast and doesn't have time at all to work. I charge extra for the steeper pitched roofs obviously.

Like Chris said,.no shame in re-applying.

Jeff

Using the Amonyx Lo it has made it possible for me to use a weaker mix and still do a great roof cleaning job.

The Amonyx Lo helps the chemical stay up there longer before running off so the weaker mix stays there doing it's job so you can clean with a weaker mix.

That Amonyx Lo is just incredible.

Thanks Lori.
