I see that the pumps Lori is advertising are 3/8". Is anyone using this size? How are these pumps when it comes to stalling? I use a roller pump right now simply because they don't stall and they will push through 200' of 3/8" hose without any lacking of distance or flow. Will these 3/8" pumps push through 200' of 3/8" hose. Changing hose size is not an option, I've used 5/8" and even 1/2" and don't like it. Just to heavy. This is not a debate on pumps , it's simply me looking for information on these 3/8" All-Flo's.
I went through a Yamada 1/2" air diaphragm pump a couple years ago. Seemed to stall more than it should,...and was even worse with the 3/8" hose that I prefer.
Thanks Walk,..In the past,.. 1/2" pumps seemed to be the size of choice by most when selecting and air diaphragm. These All-Flo's are pretty expensive compared to other models in that size range. Just trying to gain some input,...I'm not afraid of change,...but it has to be suited for me and my own preferences.
I also would like to know how the 3/8 compares to a 1/2 pump? I recently cleaned a roof for someone who provided me with two used 1/2 inch pumps. I am pumping through 200' of 5/8 hose. Everything I've read say's bigger is better.Another 3' of distance would be huge. It just seems to me that reducing hose size would increase flow. Why is this wrong?
No, reducing hose size is definitely more restrictive when judging flow rates. I think there's an old thread on here that shows the difference in real world flow rates with different size hose. More friction loss in the smaller hose. You need both flow and pressure to get distance. I do know that.
According to Chris, Yamada does not make a 3/8 pump. He said that the 3/8 is ideal for roof cleaning.
All-Flo shared with me that guys used to have a rubber mallet next to the air diaphragm pumps to allow them to give them a quick tap when the pump stalled.
The All-Flo should NOT stall. Please use a filter/regulator as close to the pump as possible to prevent trash from entering your pump and to avoid spikes in pressure.
Using a 3/8 will not allow you to fully utilize the performance of the pump. We suggest at least 1/2" or even better, 5/8".
I use the 3/8 Jeff and It works great. It has stalled maybe 5 times and I never rinse it out. Pushing 150 roofs with it, still get 6gpm out of 200ft. 5/8 hose with only a 9cfm 9 gallon compressor. Hope this helps bro, good to see you around.

Yea, Bill that does help,..I like to see numbers!! Thanks!
I just ordered a pump from Lori, hope to get it soon. With the " stalling " what are the signs of stalling and what should I do when it happens? Thanks
Stalling is when the pump refuses to come out of deadhead mode without disconnecting the air pressure. Deadhead mode is what is achieved when you turn off the spray nozzle on your hose. It causes the air pressure and liquid pressure to equalize therefore stopping the pump. When you turn the nozzle back to on the pump is supposed to start spraying again as the liquid pressure is relieved. When it does not come out of deadhead it is stalled and usually requires the air to be disconnected and reconnected to unstall it. Some pumps have a button to unstall them. And most pumps stall all the time. The allflo has a displacement in the pump body to help prevent this and it really does work.

Hello Jeff! I notice my 1/2 Yamadas sometime stall, It is partly because the wheelbarrow compressors we use are kind of marginal. However, when we put our big Rol Aire 17.7 cfm on it, not only did it became a true superpump, it never stalled! A quick and dirty trick for anyone using a wheelbarrow compressor is to simply buy a 30 or more gallon air tank. They are cheap, and make all the difference in da world, easire on the compressors too!

Chris what are we suppose to do with the 30 or more gallon air tank, combine it to the wheelbarrow compressor some how for additional air?
Thanks Chris,,...Yea I was using only a wheelbarrow compressor. Inersoll-Rand that puts out 11 cfm @90 Psi,...BUT it is only 8 gallon total volume. I may try it again this year and maybe add an extra tank. I do like the air pumps, just had a few issues and had to be able to keep up with the work,...which is why I went back to my old school roller pump. I am not afraid of change though,.and recognize the value of a simpler better system. Just has to suit me is all. I hate inconsistency.
So what is the new hose of choice among those here? All opinions and reasons welcomed.

Chris, did you just re-plumb the air coming out of the compressor to the larger tank along with the outlet plumbing and don't use the smaller tanks or do you use them all connected together?
I am getting ready to switch over to the All Flo Air Diaphragm Pump from Lori at Pressure Washer Products.
I have a 21 gallon air tank that was a Horrible Freight air compressor that bit the dust but the tank is still good, I am thinking that I could use that tank in place or with the wheelbarrow air compressor.
How is your other tank connected?
With the larger air compressor and tanks I will be able to do some sand blasting now so that will be some extra stuff I can use that larger air compressor for.
Thanks.
