What is considered soft washing psi? PSI under 100? What is the average psi coming from a residential faucet? In some cases, we may have to wash/rinse the surface, but should a customer ask I would like to be able to tell them what soft washing consists of.

im pretty sure a the regular psi for a garden hose is around 40 psi

Low pressure on a roof is under 100 psi.

I know this may not be answerable, but do you think the psi of a hard rain is? I guess I am trying to figure out an acceptable or safe psi to rinse a roof should it be needed. If I advertise soft wash, I want to be sure I am using softwash psi. The asphalt tech bulletin says no high pressure sytems are to be used. That is too general and vague. I need more specifics.

If you are using a 12v pump set-up, just rinse with that. Or a garden hose. Both are acceptable and should both be around 40-60 psi.

I would consider soft washing to be what a garden hose spits out, which is 40-60 psi..

also the thing ofcorse you want to consider when rinsing is the gpm not the psi. as long as the psi is around 40-80 that should be fine.

I called the pitchwitch company today just to see what its psi is...They said 500. I cant believe guys get away with calling it low pressure. Yeah, maybe for a pressure washer its low, but for a roof, no way Jose!

I can rinse a roof with my 4000psi  @ 4gal./min pressure washer very safely and meet RCIA standards.

We never use that kind of pressure for roof cleaning in tampa I have seen roofing shingles damaged by a garden hose with a jet tip.

500 PSI with the pitch witch, 800 PSI with the surface cleaner-on-a-rope-on-a-roof that the franchise guys use.... Imagine a one inch square on your foot, with 500 lbs on it!!

That's scary!

Consider a 12v pump (Fatboy in my case, might upgrade this year) at 60 PSI at ground level.  Now push that through 200' of hose, mostly coiled.  Now push that head 1 story, no make that 2 stories.  Now let the chem rain down on the roof like you're watering a fragile flower garden.

PSI?  No problemo.  Not our way, the right way.  smile.gif

I have my external regulator on my Roof Cleaning pump set at 98psi.

As far as House Washing goes I would say I'm right about where Guy is on the PSI. Maybe a bit higher in real tough areas to Clean.

Some guys have dedicated roof rinsing only pumps, believe it or not.
