waiting till it “rains”?

Ok…this is my first post so hang in there with me please. Selling this service door to door ( I believe this is the best way to do it ) and knowing what you are talking about will pretty much lock you into some business. What I do not understand is how do you sell this service and then tell the client that they have to wait until it rains to get the full results of the job you just did for them. I keep hearing just wait till a good "rain".

Maybe I’m not understanding what you are saying when it comes to waiting for it to “rain”

Ps. It took me a week to figure out the “apple” reference as far as chemical to use.

No secret lingo there. Just literally wait until water comes out from the clouds. May take a couple rains for moss lichen to wash away.

When you are finished cleaning, you will not see any black streaks on the roof. You will still see dead moss and lichen. You also may see some brown haze remaining where the algae was before you killed it. It depends on how heavy the algae infestation was on the shingles and what color the shingles are.

Here is a certified roof cleaning in Kennett Square Pennsylvania. I took pictures before, immediately after the cleaning and then again after a hard rain. If you look at the second picture, you will see the brown haze that was remaining after the roof was cleaned. It shows up much better in the picture than it did in person. I informed the customer before I started the job that there may be a slight brown haze where the black streaks used to be and that they would go away with the first rain. The customer said he didn't even notice the streaks when we were finished. He felt the roof looked great!

I see what you are saying about the rain…..But around here it could be weeks before it rain’s……..Can I rinse It off while I’m there or do you have to wait till it dries and then rinse…..The dark spots that will show after it dries kind of freaks me out……when I am done …I would like to be done…..I don’t want the neighbors to see it until it is totally clean.

Every thing that I try to use to clean the roof will leave "after spots" ?

What about safety up on the roof….? How do you secure your self…?

And by the way…thank you very much for helping me

Mike,
You can rinse it if you want to, but it is totally unecessary. I have not had one customer unhappy about paying me when I completed the job. Most don't even notice the brown if there is any. Rinsing will double the time it takes to complete a job. There are a ton of other reasons not to rinse also.

Do some searches on rinsing. It has been disussed quite a bit on this forum. Spend a lot of time reading!

As far as safety goes, you don't have to walk on any roof to clean it. If you have the correct equipment you can clean anything from a ladder. I walk easy ones but the rest get cleaned from my ladders.

Mike,
You may want to fill out your bio and profile more completely. People want to know who they are talking to and where you are located. Fill out your signature line as well. You will probably get more responses if you do.
