That roof was finished minus a few shakes we replaced. That was right after staining. We don't seal roofs as they need to breath. We use a product that protects from uv, has growth inhibitors and water repellecy. Its made for cedar roofs. its also semi transparent so the real cedar shows through, we just touch up the color. Also the color will stay for at least 3-5 years unlike new cedar which greys in 1 year.

Now all they have to do is retreat it ever few years for a lot less cost that starting from scratch an that roof will last at least another 10 years.

Key is staining with the cedar tints and using a semi transparent that lets the true wood show through. Alot of guys bleach the roofs and then they are trying to stain white cedar with solid stains. looks like junk that way. cleaning the roofs properly brings the true cedar color before you even stain it. Also its the sprayers you use. we can stain 50 squares of shakes in 2 hours and the coats are nice and even. Can't be messing with deck sprayers filled with thompsons.

hay that job looks vary professional.have you every tried mess around with water base stains.i have heard that water base is junk.

personally, i have only use oil base. and had good results (readyseal). but i have notices that the market is pushing water based hard with big warranties.
