Hey Chris,

I'm here. Just saw my name pop up on RSS feed. Cool forum you got here brutha.

I hardly wrote the book on foam, but thanks to Matt, I am pretty good with it. I always thought that roof cleaners and hood cleaners have a lot in common. There aren't enough tools out there for us, so we make our own. There aren't enough chemicals that are reasonably priced, so we make our own.

THERE you are Anthony !!!!
What are YOUR thought on foam for a roof cleaner, bearing in mind we cant carry cannisters up on steep roofs ??

What do you think about wet, airless foam vs shaving cream foam ?

You have tons of experience with the Foam

Well, I would say a wet foam would be the shiz on roofs.  Trying to spray a thick shaving cream foam out in the wind is no fun.  Plus, the sun will dry that thick foam out pretty quickly and it will not perform how you want it to.

With a ball valve and some good surfactant, you can get some nice foamage by just downstreaming your chems from the pressure washer.  It's going to be wet, but it will cling better than nothing.

Downstreaming a big negative, cant get enough chemical concentration.
Chlorine only comes in 12.5 percent, unlike caustic beads, etc, etc.
Gotta work with our chemical pumps.
Lafferty suggest a foaming wand for us.

I see.. well, that sucks. Hahah.

I was taught that downstreaming wouldn't work for hood cleaning too, but when I tried it, I was amazed. Again, I can mix my chems VERY strong like you say, but I wonder if the stickyness of the foam would help with the lack of chem strength?

Don't think so Anthony, at least it did not work for me.
I added all kinds of surfactants to increase dwell time, no luck.
However, you know the Apple, I am working on a sodium hypochlorite catalyst to kick the SH in the azz.
THEN, maybe downstream will work ?
But with standard 12.5 percent, no luck
But maybe with foam , who knows ???
Ever try a lafferty foamer wand ?

No, but I have spoken to Mr. Lafferty. He is a very knowledgeable guy and puts out some quality foamers. I wouldn't hesitate to give it a shot.

Caleb

We're very interested in your results using your foaming gun. Having read most of the thread did you ever post a picture of your foaming gun/apparatus? If so could you resend it to me, I would be most appreciative. Also, what is your product / cleaning solution for the foamer? Thanks for your help.

I don't believe in this mystical foaming device...Caleb excited us all and then went AWOL...it does not work with our chemicals which, on the other hand,  DO work.  It's not worth the time, effort and trouble to get a little bit of foam for ROOF cleaning.

Chris.

How are you going looking into foaming equipment

I see you have been thinking about foaming for over 5 years (grimescene board) yet have never played with one (to my knowledge)

For tile and corrugated tin roofs I recon it would be the ducks guts, shingles are another story.

There seems to be a lot of people here that think foaming is an urban myth, but I wonder if they have ever tried one? or even looked into it before commenting.

Welcome all to the new year, I hope you all do well this year.
