Did the local show here in April. Thousands of people, good exposure. Made some money, but more than likely will not do it again. I think there are better sources to spend my advertising dollars on. However, I know others who had great success. It seems that many of the people come to the show out of boredom, and to get the freebies. Maybe half of the people are actually looking for home improvement ideas.
I've done it once. I made more money than what I spent on the show. Not a huge turn out, was worth my time though. Had a lot setting up the booth, had truck, trailer, table with flyers, business cards, before and afters, video. It was a good time filling everybody in about roof cleaning and the REAL way to do it. It always amazing me how many people have no idea. I've found direct mailing works the best and brings in the most business, besides word of mouth.

Great input guys! I don't know that much about direct mailing. Do you go around looking for dirty houses and record their adress? How else would you know who to send to?
I've done one local event 2 years in a row. The first year I just had a booth with before and after pics, video, business cards and magnets. The booth was kind of off the beaten path and I really didn't get much traffic. This year I had a booth on the main drag, and got to put my 16' enclosed trailer there. I had several displays set up, before and after pics, business cards, magnets, ink pens, and flyers. I also had balloons made with my logo and handed them out to every small child that walked past the booth. Before you knew it my name was all over the event. I would hand out business cards and pens to potential future customers walking by the booth. I picked up a few jobs as a result of the weekend, but my biggest reason for doing the event was for name recognition. People may not be ready for my service when I meet them, but I want them to remember my company when they are ready.
I'm actually doing 2 Christmas parades this week. I'll be pulling my truck n enclosed trailer, and I've got 4 elvs handing out candy canes with my business card attatched. Just one more way to get in front of people and have them remember Chesapeake Hydro-Wash.
Got to remind them, "Santa doesn't like a Dirty Roof!"

As far as the direct mailings, I'll spend hours driving around surrounding cities with a tape recorder, recording street names that have majority dirty roofs. Mostly in nicer neighborhoods, not neccessarily "rich", those are always good for business, but ones that people care to spend money on their home. Then take the street names with cities to a mailing company, buddy happens to own one but any of them are willing to take your money. I then had a double sided flyer made 6"x9" jut about the biggest thing in the mailbox, so they dont have a choice ut to look at it. Then have the mailing company send your flyers to all the streets. Quick results, guaranteed to bring in the business. There's a little more to it but thats pretty much it. Initial cost isnt too much, under a $1000, but like I said brings in a lot of business.

For me better and maybe faster, just not as cheap. People are less likely to talk to you and hear what you have to say when YOU come knocking at their door as to a piece of mail showing up in there mail box. Then they call you if they want your services, plus looks a lot more professional.

Shawn i like that idea.is this your main method for finding jobs.
oh i am trying to find a cover for my hot water skid do you cover yours from the weather.if yes what do you use.
Thomas
I would certainly winterize your equipment, I always use windshield fluid it's good for -20 below, however never reuse it because it could be deluted.
It's certainly better to cover your equipment than not. I cover my equipment to keep it out of sight, and the weather.I use the heavy duty grill covers. I don't pull the trailer with them on though. at first I bought cheap one's and after pulling railer down the road they got caught on sharp edge's of equipment and tore immediately.
If nothing else just use one of those large blue tarps.
