I guess your problems have more to do with cold,.. I'm in Ireland and its the rain that stops me working (Last week we had the worst floods in 85 years locally!). Personally I think a winter sideline is essential to survival in this situation.
I have a few office cleaning/ store cleaning jobs that are regular income & indoors work and keep me ticking over for a couple of hours a week,.. I even clean the inside of a small power station. I've just been asked to take on some communal area cleaning of the stairwell & elevator of a small office block,.. the money initially didn't look great, but they want it done twice a week so its actually nearly $6000 per annum, and it can be done regardless of the weather.
I also do some website design/optimisation work,.. not great paying as the hours it consumes are huge,.. but when the weather is too bad for work, any income is better than none!
