Hello all,

I just got my rig set up last week.  Thank you all for the information and wisdom that you've shared.  I've learned a truck load of knowledge from RCIA members in the last few months, but I've got plenty more to learn.

 

Here are the specs on the rig.

150 gal. tank

5x10 open trailer

Delavan Fatboy

200' Kuri Tec hose

Titan 28" hose reel

Deep cycle battery

I had a local sprayer shop help me set it up and everything was working fine when I shot water through the system.  I mixed up a batch of Cider Sauce to practice on a buddies roof last night and I kept loosing pressure while I was spraying.  The sprayer shop recommended to I put a pressure gauge on the pump to adjust the pressure if needed and to avoid dead heading the pump.  I was wondering if I should take the gauge out and just plumb from the tank to pump to hose???  

 

Another culprit might be where the hose connects to the hose reel.  There is an elbow to connect the hose to, but whenI reel the hose up it puts a kink in the hose right there at the elbow.  One way to avoid that would be to unravel the hose all the way out each time I use it, but I thought there might be a better way.

On a brighter note, the roof turned out pretty good.   I'll post more pics on the rig and roof later.  It takes forever for me to download pictures with my internet speed.

 

Any advise is very very much appreciated.

Your hose needs  to be keep down inside your hosereel where you hook your hose up to the reel. I found it best, if you roll your hose up from the far side of the reel, your hose wont Kink.

Check all your clamps to make sure your not sucking air and loosing preasure.

You may try putting a nipple with another elbow where the kink is now. Then when you wind up the hose let it have a little slack in the first wind so it doesn't kink again. don't forget to cut off the existing kink that you have now.

An elbow fitting or something will help you but also you should always pull all your hose off the reel before you spray and if you do have a slight kink it will not be that way once you have it all pulled out off the hose reel. If you try keeping some on the hose reel it will cause a pulsing effect on your pump. Another thing mix your tsp and SH the day before unless you just run out on the job. I know if I do not use heated water to mix my tsp on the job it will cause a slight bit of clogging on the pump but I also have a heated industrial pressure washer so that makes it easy to do if I run out.

Was the pump cycling? It could also be the nozzle size. If it's too small it will be creating too much back pressure which would cause the pump to cycle.

Vinny is right. It looks like you overcomplicated the hose set up. That regulator may be restricting flow. It looks like you have a bypass type of set up going on. Maybe the extra plumbing is causing some cavitation in the pump and dropping the pressure.

 Brian,thats what it looks like, they set it up with a bypass and that hose on the reel looks like its just connected to a nipple should be on a barbed style connector, and is that nipple galvanized steel, rust city, use brass

Bill,

I think you and Vinny are right on the pressure valve.  It was their recommendation to put it on and I trusted what they said sense setting up sprayer systems is what they do.  In their defense though they primary set up ag systems for farmers and had never set up a system to spray our chemicals.  

The elbow that is on the reel came to me that way from Titan or Pressure Washer Services, whomever put the hose on.  I'll roll the entire hose out on my next roof and see if between the hose, replumbing the pump and a bigger nozzles if this solves the problem.

       The pump was running the entire time.  When I was shooting water it would stop running once I let off the trigger on the gun.

got a quote on one yesterday...have decided to go with it...

the guy selling it to me wasnt wrong when he said this pump gives results not far off some petrol powered units

Dustin i have the same hose reel remove that nipple they put on the elbow and put a brass 1/2 npt x 5/8 or 3/4(what ever size hose your using) hose barb connector . this shorter connector should help with the kinking ,if you have that soft hose by kuritec that also is helping it to kink, i have the kuritec but its not as glossy as yours, i only unreel what hose i need for the job and never have a pressure issue and yes the pump will always run when the gun is on and shut off a second or two after you turn it off

Thanks for the info.  On Thursday I did just what you described and everything is working great.  I did my second roof today and had no pressure problems.  Here are some before and after pics.  This is with no rinsing or rain yet.  Customer was very happy and so was I.
