actually they been out for like 3 weeks, and we are sending out more.... we wil not guive up!! may be is because temperture out there is not that grate yet!! today we target 60 houses I did talk to 5 people ( that were doing yard work) one of them whos house is really in bad shape say, you know what.. I never notice that my roof was that bad!! I guess is all about educating peple, like in Florida as far as know is a "law" to keep your Roofs clean!!
I'm not sure I get this? Movil advertisement? I don't know what that is? As to flyers, I have put out many thousands through the years and get about 1 job per hundred flyers at best. It's the bottom of the line [lowest form] of advertising there is, I believe? Customers largely feel like you must not be doing too well in business, or you wouldn't need to solicit work door to door. I'm not knocking it! I still put flyers out that state "I am working in your neighborhood today" etc etc within a few blocks of a job i'm doing, during slow times in the summer. I do not solicit in person, except in the immediate area of a job [acroos the street and next door] I do 1/2 of the front roof and then go do my talking and point to the roof i'm doing. If you are going to talk to them in person and offer them a flyer, you MUST look professional and clean in every way, yet, wearing work clothes, not salesmans' clothes ] show them your business card, license and insurance proof, or you will scare them off! That's my experience with flyer advertising. Chuck Bergman Roof Cleaning

Hi, juarez1981. I have been in the home improvement bussiness for a long time and have done some canvassing, that is whatI know as door knocking or door to door sales. There is a nack to it . If you work at it canvassing will work. The biggest producers that I know of were all canvassers. This is hard work but, it pays. Be carefull, you don't want to come off as a salesman. When you approach someone working in their yard be friendly and ask them for their help. "I was just driving through the area and noticed the roofs on this street need some attension. Do you know of any one who has mentioned having their roof cleaned?" Doesn't matter what his answer is. Tell him you are offering a pre season deal. Discounts are not the best thing to offer. Remember, what ever price you quote, you have to live with for the hole street. It's better to offer free gutter cleaning or some other service. People love to here free anything besides, you are the one who decides what FREE is worth. Don't leave that yard without quoting a price. Once you do if he says something like "what $500." Reply "That must be a lot less than you thought, mabe I made a mistake." If this gets a laugh don't wory about it. Weather you get the job or not go to the next person that is outside and explain the same thing to them. this time you can say. "I was just talking to Chris down the street and.....Some things to remember dress like you are ready for work , not like a salesman, ask leading questions , yes and no answers get you nowhere. Be friendly, joke around a little, and have some fun.

If you handle the potential customer just right and they actually let you do a sample area of their roof, YOU GOT THE JOB!!! Who would ever actually watch what we can do with a roof and then say "No thanks"??? NEVER!

You're soooo right Chuck!! That is why I offer: "FREE SPOT DEMONSTRATION... NOT test spot
We know it works, so demonstration is more applicable. Roof cleaning is still a relatively new idea in a lot of areas, mine included ...and people are skeptical at times, so offering to show them what you can do is a winner for both parties!!
Everyone knows how much technology has changed the way we look at everything.
Just showing them before and after photographs or even a video sometimes is not convincing enough because people will accuse you of digitally altering your images or videos with special effects.
There's no arguing with actually seeing results right before your very eyes! LOL!

HAS ANY BODY TRY THIS BEFORE?
Examples of Proper Roof Cleaning:
Giving Prospective Customer DEMO's from Roof Clean USA's prospective AND from Other Roof Cleaners across the USA
Anyone want to give an EXAMPLE on how to do a proper demonstration of a roof being "SPOT" cleaned so the newbie or student can get a better sense of how to do this easily and effectively.
I am so strapped for time now that I cannot get the video camera out and dedicate time to do this, but if anyone can video or take pictures of the process it would go a long way to showing others how easy this is to actually do.
I use a dedicated SOLO Backup sprayer that we changed out to Viton Seals and that is our roof cleaning demo pack.
We climb up on the ladder and use proper eyae and respiratory protection and spray a portion of the Asphalt Shingle in a obvious area and let the chemical do the work. In about 10-15 min. rinse that portion from the ground with a gardedn hose for FULL EFFECT, and, Voila' , instant BEFORE and AFTER roof cleaning right before the skeptical customers eyes.
Note:
We usually mix a stronger concentration in the Backpack sprayer so the EFFECT is QUICK and DRAMATIC. It is ALWAYS advisable to FIRST use the FRESHEST SHC that you can so it is a "NO Muss, NO Fuss" DEMO with no excuse to the prospective customer later, (after waiting 10-15 minutes) as to why the first coat didn't give maximum result.
The rinse for the specific area allows the treated roof to be "Night and Day" and ends in a scheduled or immediate roof cleaning.
On average, if do 10- 20 of these DEMO's on a Saturday in various neighborhoods you can expect to see 1-to-3 jobs come as a IMMEDIATE result if presented properly, unless you are overpriced or in a severly low income area of the country.
Always have on a clean company shirt, clean shoes, beard trimmed or clean shaven Hands clean, and have all baclkup supporting marketing materials, pics and proof of past work, letters of recommendation/ testimonials ready to show and verify with the customer.
Yard signs AFTER the JOb and a SPECIFIC Roof Cleaning In PROGRESS sign during Cleaning is Always a good idea.
Also leave 3-5 cards with EVERY completed Roof Cleaning so the customer can sell his/her friends on your professionalism and Roof Cleaning expertise.
Might be alittle late to this topic...but I have to say that "Mobile Advertising" works.... I just sealed and cleaned two roofs last week because I was out passing out flyers. I have pictures created with work I've done and use them. I constantly change the flyers to new work I've done...so I can tell people as I talk to them that this image is someone in the nieghborhood that we just did. Point them to take a look or offer to have them watch your next job... Tons of ways to approach it. You just have to know the area your advertising in.
The one thing I don't do is knock on doors. I've been caught walking away from putting up flyers (door hangers or pics) and the person came out to see what I put on thier door. They sometimes ask why I didn't knock and I simply state that I don't like to intrude, but that I saw they could benifit from my service...from there it takes just a little chit-chat to seal the deal.
That's just what works around here for me....
BTW: The last two Cape Cod pics are neighbors that were both sold by the original Cap Cod advertisment.
Not sure why the captions didn't show....so... The Brown Cape with "WOW" is my newest flyer... The next blue Cape was my previous "flyer"... and The two pics at the end are samples of what I give every customer within a week of cleaning thier roof. I like to give each a 4x6 print so that it reminds them and becomes a conversation piece in thier home.

Honest, I can teach just about anyone to clean a roof. But SELLING what you learn here is the trick.
I agree with door to door canvassing, BUT, we always teach someone with few sales skills NOT to try and sell, on the spot. All we want you to do is politely introduce yourself, say what you do and how you do it, show some before and afters, then offer a free demo IF they would like. Experience has shown that sales just HAPPEN using this approach.
You will be LESS uptight if you THINK, in your mind, you are NOT "selling anything", and so will the customer
Remember, sales is a Numbers game, don't quit after 10 calls. IF you get disgusted, here is what you do ?
Get up EARLY one morning, and WATCH people rushing in stop and go traffic, half asleep, attempting to get to a Job they HATE, on time
Wanna be like THEM
I didn't think so, so go out and introduce yourself
This is a great thread guys. Demos are the way to go. I have yet to do a roof demo but i will soon! Many of them. I have done demos for exterior gutter cleaning while door hanging. I sold 3 out of 4 last weekend. One guy handed my card back said "you cant make those look new!" i laughed and said give me 5 minutes..... washed his house yesterday. He was actually going to have the gutters replaced! Before I left he told me to schuedule next spring.... the 4th guy is probabaly still scrubbin tryin to get his as white as i did! I plan to carry sprayers for roof, walls, and gutters from now on.

Hi and Welcome Chris. There is a lot fo great info here for no pressure roof cleaning, check out the search button at the top to find exact references for info you may be looking for. I would love to hear what you are using for gutters, as well as if it is just a spray on method or needs to be wiped or sprayed off. I power wash them with ripper (naturally derived solvents in dry pak) from envirospec and sometimes it just can't do the trick. Do you see a lot of bad Gloeocapsa Magma and lichen on roofs in Arkansas??
On another note, I know we keep saying that we don't want to have pw talks but I thought I saw Chris say at somepoint pw discussion to some degree may be a good thing to avoid being labeled as spam?? That we should have some other content in discussions. Can someone clarify this for me?? Should we avoid all topics outside of roof cleaning or have some off topic threads devoted to other cleaning practices, only as ot relates to our search rankings??
Hey! Can I run my flyers by you as well. I know it is a marketing issue here in Memphis. I need about a $10,000. ad campain on the TV and Radio. Bammm!
I Wish! My web site sort of needs a boost as well but the content is good.!
Sometimes the chemical works. (SHC) Most of the time! For other cases especially white gutters go to auto zone and buy a Good Citris Cleaner! An extention wand, and a good stif flexable brush.. May take two or three applications. Do not let it re dry or you will be starting over.
Green stuff usually comes off with water hose and water spraying . For those pesky little stains that are imbeded the above process works well. It sometimes turns into a hand job but if the customer is happy that means good referrals...
Pressure Clean Gutters.. Huuu? Really? Naaaaa!  (SHC or a Citris Cleaner and a water hose with a good Gilmour Water Sprayer)
Im using gutter grenade from ptstate on gutters and it works great... mixed stout scrubbing isnt needed. Im not trying to steer this away from roof cleaning but that has been my best experience selling door to door.
It seems like 6 out of 10 roofs here are stained. Out of those the question is how many can afford and be convinced that their roof can be cleaned. My goal is to target homes in higher scale neighborhoods (folks that pay to have their lawn cut). If someone HAS the money i dont know why they wouldnt have their roof cleaned after a demo! Thanks for the welcome.
