I'm thinking of going in the business, so I was wondering.

also if you had any advice, I would appericate it
thanks

Hi Dave, I am going to repost this in the main forum so you can get more feedback from others rather than just myself which will help you more overall.

dp135,

To answer your questions.

Question:

"In this economy, how many house owners would become customers if I distribute 100 door cards, to their dirty roof house, with the houses income being in the upper part? "

Answer:

The average response rate nationwide is from my understanding, 2-3% overall which means 2-3 new interested prospects and possible customers per every 100 door hangers. With the average sale at $200.00-$500.00 this would convert to $400.00-$600.00 on the low side and $1000.00 - $1,500.00 on the high side on average.

This is of course dependent on factors such as demographics, sales pitch and value to the customer, the quality of the marketing materials impact and the ability to upsell the prospect, plus many more variables.

As for the Question on any advice as to how to start off.

The answer is to read, read, read and read some more and go to fine forums like the pro power wash forum (www.propowerwash.com and click on their fine bulletin board) and do extended searches on Roof Cleaning on the search engine Google.

Also, read the many fine post on this great forum and ask many questions, you will get the answers you seek if you are serious and study the market and the need in your area and lay the groundwork now.

Rome wasn't built in a day and neither is a roof cleaning business, but with hard work, smart thinking and planning and dedication you can and will succeed.

Good Luck to you, David and keep asking questions and stay open to new ideas and concepts and you will do fine.

Like he said, every location is different. For me I would have to do 10 times that amount to come close to those numbers. At least 1000 cards, 100 would not be nearly enough for me.

I like to keep busy working and making money, so I pay Valpak to mail flyers for me.
Costs a fortune but it's worth it. I started out with 20,000 mailers/month.

And these flyers are not just average looking joe jackleg ads, they are top quality professionally designed ads.

Not satisfied with the results, I now mail 60,000 mailers/month six times a year.

Valpak charges me $12,000 for 360,000 envelopes. It's worth it for me.

I had no idea if it would be worth it in the beginning, the only way to know is to try.

Impossible to predict, too many variables.

Be careful with door hangers, especially in affluent neighborhoods. If you have to pass through a gate to get in, look for a "No Soliciting" sign. I didn't see the one hidden behind the tree and bushes at the entrance to an upscale community. It wasn't fun explaining to the local police just why I was there. They didn't seem to care that the sign was hidden, it was there and that was all that mattered.
Check your local laws to make sure you are allowed to go door to door without a permit. In my town it's legal, but one town over I could get arrested and face loss of my Home Improvement Contractors license. Aside from that, just make sure you never attach anything to any mailbox and you should be good.
Good Luck.

Mike, just curious what kind of return you are getting with ValPack.

Have you done the numbers or have an idea?

Thanks.

It's pretty good. It's the only ad that keeps my phone ringing consistantly. Yellow pages suck compared to Valpak.

A great return would be 10 times your money, but I don't quite get that much.

I get about 4-5 times.

Keep in mind, this return is for a market of about 500,000 people.  Greensboro and High Point in Guilford County, NC

Nice R.O.I Mike,

I would like to see your ad for ValPak that is pulling those returns.

Could you send me a scan or .jpg of the image of your slick when you have some time to do so.

my e-mail is roofcleanusa@gmail.com

I am putting together my spring campaign and always like to like at Review FRESH ideas.

My ad guy is ok but new layouts from others in other parts of the country are sometimes like giving a transfusion to a ad campaign

Thanks Mike S.

I will. I need to make some changes to it. I'm going to change the before/after roof pics and replace the PWNA logo with PWNC. I'll e-mail it to you when it's ready.

Part of the reason I'm getting a good return is because of the variety of services I offer.
