I just had an epiphany! I know some of you are saying you had an epipha-WHAT? Well let me just say my mind started turning and thinking about this and that while I was just this evening putting a primer coat on a metal stand we made out of 2" X 2" rectangular tubing for a 100 Gallon Chemical tank.
I have had this old faithful and originally very expensive tank with me for 12 or more years on various trailers.
(FYI,follow along with my rant as theres a powerful message at the end)
Its manufactured by a company down in Florida called Tuflex and is one He** of a good tank. It has been with me thru pest control use and now serves as the main tank I use for my roof cleaning brew on my primary trailer.
As I was spraying the primer on the stand I was wondering how many of us struggle with the customer that is uneducated about the art and science of Professional Roof Cleaning, especially in less populated, rural areas or small towns.
Many folks don't even know that it is possible to safely clean and extend the useful life of a shingle, tile or metal roof through using specialized CLEANING AGENTS applied at very low, safe pressures and at times gently rinsed with water to remove the offending stains or discoloration on the roof surfaces of their home or business.
I ask you as a roof cleaning professional, do you realize or have you considered just how it is so imperitive for each and everyone of us to handle ourselves in a professional manner and with the highest integrity. It is so critical that we don't look or come across in way that would be distasteful or un attractive to our new or current customer base.
It is my humble opinion that, having a polished, professional "first impression" is paramont to your companies future. Also have a well planned presentation is the first step toward building a business that we can retire from one day. We should never look at the short term and view this as "fast cash" or a "quick way to make a buck".
There are those of us who have studied and made substancial sacrifices to further the positive public view of our industry and our services. Yet sadly there are also those who give our service a "black eye".
We should be VERY concious and aware of the general public's outward view on us individually as business owners and as a PRofessional Roof Cleaning community.
Think about it, the body language we SEND and RECEIVE when making calls on behalf of our business, is very important in our overall communication of the mesage we want to portray to the end user of our services because you truly "Never get a second chance to make a good, positive first impression. The right or WRONG signals and messages you send onine and off can have dramatic effects on not just your business but the industry as a whole.
Its my opinion that when we carry our company name on our vehicle or on a business card or a flyer, or on other signage, that it portrays all of us in a positive light. Think about the small cost of doing things right the first time as opposed to cutting corners up front, only to have it backfire and be much more costly on the back end.
Just some food for thought. Only my opinion. Take what you want and leave the rest.
Thanks for your time and much success to all those of who take the road less traveled and climb ladders and spray water and chemicals for money.
Great information, I agree about having a more professional image because there are a lot of people out there that will make quick decisions about you and your company based on how professional you look and your equipment.

Yeah well if you look at the power washing industry you can see what happens when alot of companies do not care about image. Painters, roofers, powerwashers and carpenters all have to deal with the cost from years of neglectfull fly by nights spreading misinformation and destructive practices. Unfortunetly this is already a problem for the roof cleaning industry as the same old misinformation has already been spread for 30yrs since the first powerwasher hit a roof.
And here is a perfect example of what we will all have to fight against http://www.roofreviver.com/ This guy dosnt even know what the black stuff is but that dosn't stop him from selling lots of oxyclean and water pics
PS I found that link as the #1 roof chemical ad on the cleaner times website I have been pretty dissapointed in that publication now for the last 4yrs. It really sucks that other associations like the PWNA are still spreading misinformation.
Until all the trades can agree that there is one best way to do roof cleaning than this will always be the fight much like the arguments for globall warming or bailouts. I have no idea what the truth is and until more people can agree I never will. That is how I imagine my customers must feel when I talk to them and they have tried to do their own reseach on roof cleaning. It makes customers scared and they give up sometimes because the truth is not clear. many times I can win the job because they finally have a face to face person telling them some "facts". Unfortunettly I was selling "facts" that were wrong as well for a long time, when i called the NRCA 2 yrs ago I was told to power wash at 150-200psi IMAGINE THAT!!!!!

Bill of AP,
Welcome to the Roof Cleaning Institute Of America
If I may, and please, Bill, take this Observation as CONSTRUCTIVE critisism only.
You may be better served by REMOVING the Photo of the Surface Cleaner, High Pressure hose and Teenager on THE ROOF off of your website as the MAIN pic in your Roof Cleaning section.
IMHO, it sends a message contrary to what we teach on this SAFE , Non Pressure Roof Cleaning Forum and may scare some customers away as well.
Hopefully, no definitely, this association will eventually be the "go-to" for information on roof cleaning. Chris has already done a great job ranking it. As more and more folks lose the phone book and use the internet, they will gravitate to this website for information on how to properly clean roofs.
Hi Dave, Thanks for the welcome, and the advice. I am planning on changing that page as soon as I have the site hosting moved. It is still held by yodle and I have stopped service with them so I can't edit it until it is moved. Yodle was a disaster, the site was built by a pro with supposedly 10yrs web marketing experience. Unfortunettly 50% of the pictures are from somewere else, Idk were she got them. But yeah that guy on the roof is my pic so is the befor and after gallery.

Good Day Bill,
I thank you for looking constructively at my observation. I was just trying to help you get the most traction and benefit from this site and its high search engine rankings which will drive traffic to your website eventually.
When that traffic does come I wanted you not to be suprised but to be ready.
I fully understand being held hostage by a hosting company and web designer.
My hope is that the information on your NEW site, when you build it, reflects the knowledge you acquire here on the Roof Cleaning Institute Of America.
I can definetely tell you have a lot of pressure cleaning knowledge from reading your other posts and I also can tell that you know that Non Pressure Roof Cleaning is an ENTIRELY different approach.
I respect where you are coming from and hope the transition will benefit your bottom line.
There is a TON of knowledge to be gained here and many terrific posts and good people to learn from.
I am looking forward to your future posts and certification once you have your knowledgebase in place.
I think you will ba a roof cleaning force to be reckoned with in your area.
Wishing you much success and knowledge gained here on the RCIA.
Respectfully,
David W.-Assistant Administrator, Roof Cleaning Institute Of America
