(UK) Police Warn Homeowners about "Rogue" Roof Cleaners Making "Rubbish Claims"

Just read an interesting article from the UK where the Dudley officials are warning homeowners of roof cleaners claiming that moss/lichen damages their roofs. The officials are calling the claims "rubbish" and telling homeowners that it's a scam, going so far as to tell them to call their hotline if they experience any "suspicious" activity.

Sounds like some English roof cleaners got a hold of some info that applies to asphalt shingle roofs (almost non existent in the UK) and are using it to drum up work.

I am trying to research moss/lichen damage on tile roofs like they have in the UK. It appears that yes, they can still be damaged. Here's one article (and I'm not familiar with this company or their reputation): https://www.roofing.net.nz/Roof_moss.html

Wikipedia touches on UK roofs and confirms the same: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Andrewray99/Roof_Litchen

Anyone know?

I was just looking for information on tile roofs like they have in the UK. Not necessarily information from the UK. (Sorry if I caused confusion.) It seems that the UK in general  isn't familiar with potential roof damage from moss/lichen, which is why the authorities are warning people to not listen to roof cleaners. I'm just trying to figure out if the UK contractors are making false claims or if the local authorities are wrong in calling these roof cleaning claims "rubbish." I found a few UK contractor sites that refer to roofs being damaged, but don't really explain why. The New Zealand website shows some examples of damage to some of the types of tiles they have in the UK and had more information. Like I said, I don't know if the website example I gave is accurate or not, only that the roof tiles are similar.

He also makes a big mistake about GA! He states it is just ugly and causes no damage....but indeed it does. It helps PROTECT moss and Lichen so it can feed and grow with each others help! So in my book thats causeing damage. I also find at times after heavy black streaks there is granuel loss even thou no moss and Lichen are present. With all that said it is very wise to clean the roof as soon as GA appears!

I lived in England for 48 years roof cleaning is not on anyones radar as yes it rains a lot but not a lot of humidity, my home was built in 1740 and still had on the original tiles and certainly never cleaned

In Ireland the roofs are covered with moss and lichen. Many of the modern roofs are worse than the old roofs. The old slate roofs seem to be less likely to be infested.
