loosing pump pressure

I have 200 feet of hose and a Delevan 5850 I pull it out of a 50 gallon drum , I pull all 200 feet off the spool and pull up to the roof as much as I need, if I turn the ball valve off, the pump will stop pumping , when I turn it back on the pump loses pressure and stops pumping, if I go down to the pump and tank area with the end of my hose it will build up pressure and start pumping again, why do I lose my pressure when I'm on top of the roof when I want to stop and start spraying?

You have an internal leak in your pump which is letting the pressure and solution drain back into your tank. My fatboy has held pressure on the line sometimes for 3-4 days. check it out and see where the leak is. Nothing will probably be vosisble looking at it. Its inside.

thanks Gary

would it be a faulty pump, I have done 2 roofs with this pump since i installed it, and i always rinsed it well with fresh water when i was done, or i can undo the hoes and fitting going to the tank and re-wrap it with plumbers tape and put it back on, but you say the problem is the pump or could it be between the pump and tank?

doubtful!  More than likely the pump internals.

run your line in your mix tank for a few before you start, Stirs everything up and gets ALL the air out.....If it continues I would check for air leaks....

It is remotely possible your pressure is set too low. Once you bring your line on the roof you can creat a head pressure back to the pump. The weight of the mix in your hose increases back to the pump once your on the roof. Try increasing the pressure screw 2 full turns.
