Ahhhh, the plight of the poor maligned asbestos tile....believe it or not they are still in existence and keeping families dry! THis roof was also serving dual duty as a topiary/fern habitat! But one call to Spray Wash got rid of the green and restored these tile singles back to their original glory!
Spray Wash Exterior Cleaning is your answer for safe, non pressure roof cleaning in the Tallahassee, North Florida area!
Great Asbestos tile roof cleaning Ray! We still have quite a few of those down here in the older neighborhoods in Houston and it's great to know they can be made to look new again as well!
Nice Ray!! There are still alot of asbestos shingles around my area,..they are probably one of the better shingles,..I did one a few years ago that was just covered with moss,...I treated it in the Fall,..and by Spring it was clean,..and free of moss,..Asbestos is porous,..and the roots of the moss really get into the material. It was like 50 years old,..and thin as paper,..but still holding out the weather.
Oh yea,..it sucks the mix right up,..there isn't any runoff,..as soon as it hits the asbestos,..there's not any flow. I think this stuff started out painted,..but the paint just wears away,..must have been painted simply for visual appeal.
Ray If the home owner ever had to replace that roof would it require a lot of expense and special permits to do a new roof? Never done roofs in Fl. or dealt with asbestos up North.
BTW, you made that roof look brand new, very nice work in Tallahassee,Florida

Hey Kim,..I live in Central Pa,..there are quite a few asbestos roofs here,..and even more asbestos sided houses.
I think the removal of an asbestos roof would be an issue if replacing them. Wouldn't be an issue I guess,..just expensive.
Kim - In some municipalities it gets even worse...i"ve heard of of some instances where the asbestos shingles have to be "tagged and bagged" and treated as HAZARDOUS MATERIAL before they can be allowed into the landfill. Easily triples the cost of roof demolition. So it is much more affordable to maintain what you have instead of replacing.
Mike - Spray from the eaves, and put a ladder to the peak of the gabble. Use an extension pole & pool brush to remove debris. Do not try and walk it. Spray "hot" 40 - 50% You will likely not get all the ferns/growth on the first go-round, but get them killed and the root beds will come down with time & nature.
THe problem with breaking an asbestos tile is, where you gonna go to replace it? YOU literally have to find a black market seller of illegal roofing material, ((pssst..hey buddy, wanna buy a shingle?) LOL, or find a guy in the neighborhood with a few spares stacked in his garage.
MIght be time to move this thread to the premmie section.

Sounds good. I really like how yours turned out. Looks great. As far as this one goes should I...... Apply love at 40-50%, brush to soften the growth, then....rinse or just hit again with love?
