Last thing... Does it make sense to certify for the different types of roof composites? Cedar, Asphault, Tile ...?

Just a thought.

Mitch, I think the idea behind the post count is that you learn from and give back to the forum.

still has no business being tied with certification.  Thats a contribution issue... not competancy

This is Chris Tuckers idea and rule. Why don't you discuss it with him. He's the only one who can change it.

Good luck.

This is an open discussion... Chris is welcome to chime in when he is ready or has the opportunity. I'm not asking him to change it for me personally. I'm presenting my opinion of the practice and inviting others to express thiers.

I'm sure he has his reasons... I may or may not agree with them when they are presented. But in the end...I have no choice but to follow the rules blindly, to question them constructively or to pack my truck and move on. smile

Wow Mitch....If we could only tailor each test to each individuals ideal view of what a test for certification should be then everyone would be happy and the world would be a better place...
I'm only half kidding! Sometimes you just need to know your role and except the fact that you are not the one in position to make the decisions. I'm sure I could find falt with every test known to man.
Should have heard me bitchin about the testing needed to become a licensed painting contractor & needing a different license for every County!!!!! But you know what? That's just the way it is and I'm not in charge. So if I want to play in someones sand box,I need to accept the rules. IMHO

OOPS

I probably should have read the post above before posting

When I meant chatter I never gave way to the content of that chatter, so I will inform you it is not idle chatter, but more information than is currently being discussed in the open side.
The topics discussed in the premium side are a variety of many things and most are in relation to business building and new ideas about equipment tools, chems etc.
No bumps do not count as a post, but I am sure you knew that already.
As far as the post count that is Chris T's rule and give him a call he answers all his calls. He can explain to you much better than I.

I understand Mr Ugly but sometimes we can really over think things. I'm going to say this once: It is only roof cleaning

LOL   Thats one thing I've never been accused of... If I have an Issue/Opinion I'm not afraid to express it. Also not afraid of being wrong. I know my place, but if my opinion doesn't matter...then why post anything. I can accept that things are the way they are... I can't except blindly falling in line because someone says so. In the end.. the rules are the rules. But if noone ever questions... nothing ever progresses.

I appreciate you'll taking the time to attempt to explain the reasoning behind it. But the answer that its his rule, therefore I can't openly challenge the logic of it isn't gonna wash.

Each of you has failed to explain what role it plays in contributing to my knowledge as a roof cleaner. YES it's benificial....but it's not a cert. issue. None have explained why it should be. Am I tested on things I read in the forum? Are my responses measured by my peers?I accept that that's the way it is... I just wanted to insure the dialog was open as to why and is it appropriate.

AARON:  Its NOT "ONLY roof cleaning..." ? Certification is a BUSINESS ASSET. Both in the residential and even more so in the commercial market. I can't believe that you could make such a naive statement!

As I've heard many people much wiser than myself say, "cleaning a roof is NOT rocket science."

Mitch, weclome , lol ...you have been here longer than I, so I see your concern here about post count to get certified.. lets see you have been here over 2 yrs and have less than 50 post.  I have never seen you post before and did not even know who you were and now you are worried about post count.

as KIM said " If I remember correctly Chris T, made the 100 post count mandatory because he feels it is tied to a commitment to RCIA, it has nothing to do posting just to post like you said.

Forgive me if I'm wrong  but you have no commitment to the Rcia, unless it is to take and not give back.  accept it My Brother  and give back a little.

This whole "commitment to the forum" thing is VERY bizzare. Very Jim Jones-esque. And I mean that in the cult likeness of the core members. Very weird.

Yes, those are good ideas, very good ideas. You WILL be seeing these 'specialty certifications' from us in the future! And our TILE Roof Cleaning Specialty Cert will have to include proper pressure washing methods, simply because several tile roof makers suggest it (thought I am in personal opposition)!

As for the 100 posts, think of it as our way of keeping your attendance, and getting to KNOW a little bit about WHO we certify ? We want you to get involved in the cirrucilum to learn, and this is one way of doing that. As a contractor, you should JUMP at the chance to post on this forum from an SEO standpoint alone. If I were new to the roof cleaning business, I would realize there is no other forum in existance that will improve your overall SEO like this one will. Look around you Mitch, see all the posts here, and all the posters ?  Many have been certified for awhile, yet they still post here everyday. Because they see what it does for their SEO.

With 100 posts on this forum, it will provide you with quality backlinks that will give you an edge in your local search results.

Actually EVERY post on this forum COSTS us money when we pay the bill for the forums bandwidth usage.

HI MITCH! Use the "Search" feature and you can learn all you need to know. biggrinbiggrin

Your questions seem like mainly semantics anyway. If you never get an answer, you can still follow the program offered here and become a certified roof cleaner!

I was a little about the 100 posts deal myself only because I have been trying to read, read, read, and read some more. I am still in the process of getting my business off the ground with being insured, licensed and get me some marketing going. Oh, I have to get equipment too!!! I have to admit I have become addicted and read everyday multiple times a day and have learned a tremendous amount. I figure my posts will continue to grow and I will just add little bits when I can but I really have nothing to offer right now and I don't want to waste time with questions since I have become friends with the search button.
The weather is becoming great here and I am pumped to get going. I find myself looking at roofs as I drive down the road everywhere I go now. It's amazing how many need work.
I will ask one question......Is it worth me joining right now before I have even started doing any work yet?
