There was some info released last night on the radio show pertaining to certification. Should have been there. More to come.

I think some people have forgotten this thread. If people really care than they need to help with their criticism not tear us apart. All of this has been what we all made it. Please remember that. Many of you have gotten calls asking for your opinions and help. Mostly we have gotten back complaints, but no solutions or help. So what are we to do here guys?? Are you in or do you just want to see it fail?

Bill,

I have talked to you a few times as well as a few moderators and never have I made a complaint w/o offering an alternative. As always, I will offer what I can with the little knowledge I have when it comes to the actual works of roof cleaning. As for the rest of the stuff, I do have a few years under my belts and in all those years, I have only had two jobs that earned a paycheck. Those paycheck days total about one year combined.

Brett

Hello Forum members,

For some time the RCIA has had discussions of moving forward with a paid membership.

We are proud to announce that this membership is now enacted after a unanimous vote from the executive board of directors.

All members that are currently registered on the RCIA forum will have a 1 month grace period ending on the first of November.  After this date all members who are active on the forum or who want RCIA representation and advice will be paid members.

The cost of membership is currently $100 per year and includes a welcome package.
This welcome package includes an RCIA members shirt, hat, certificate, die cut sticker and more. Please include your email address and your t-shirt size and telephone number.

Currently we are accepting new memberships at the office of our treasurer Gary Wyer, through this address:
127 Declaration Dr.
Louisville KY 40214

Checks to be payable to Roof Cleaning Institute of America.
In the near future we will have easier payment methods.

This paid membership will allow the RCIA members to have a voice and vote in the writing of the industry standard.
It will also allow a chance to become an RCIA representative at events and gatherings were we can promote the RCIA standards to our customers.

This does not constitute a closed forum at this point, this and other topics are still being addressed and a plan of action for each concept will be laid in place over the following few months.

At this point we are no longer writing new certifications, and all current certifications will still be valid until the last day of 2011 at which point a renewal or new certification process will be in place.

I trust that you who have devoted so much time to making RCIA such a great site, know what you are doing and that all changes made will improve RCIA and benefit it's members. I would expect costs to go up, as they do with everything in life and as that yearly fee increases, I will be happy to pay my share.
I have just 1 thing that would bother me and that is what was said here
"a renewal or new certification process will be in place."
I have no problem with renewals, but I think that making those of us who have already been certified, go through another process to be certified all over again is unnecessary. I was not certified just by a "number of posts" but by Chris Tucker over the phone, answering qualifying questions that certified me as a professional roof cleaner, who knows RCIA standards and cleans roofs accordingly.
Now, any uncertified roof cleaners, who wish to become certified, would obviously comply with whatever certification process is required when they request certification.

That's my 2 cents and thanks for all your excellent work and thinking!
Chuck Bergman

Chuck;
Just a quick question. You answered the questions correctly the first time and passed. What makes you think that the new procedures are going to be that much harder. Probably more through and a higher number, but nothing that the average person who has done some reading and research on RCIA can't pass.  We are not here to keep people from getting certified, but rather to help them learn and trive in their business.
Hope that helps. You will do fine. No worry.
Gary

Hi Bill biggrin
I personally have never complained about the direction RCIA has moved in, or it's decisions etc. I have spoken my opinions [ Like I am now ] on matters that came up, but I thought that was what was wanted - to know how we the members feel about things?
I did complain when I noticed my "Certified" title had been removed from me, that I earned back in 2009 by the certification process RCIA used at the time. I was told I had to pay $100.00 to get it back, I didn't care about the $100, but I didn't feel it was fair to remove what I had earned by RCIA rules back in 2009 and then require $100 to get it back? If instead of removing it, I had been contacted and simply told there was a $100 fee to remain a member, I would simply have paid it with no qualms. I was never contacted though. I did pay it, after some discussion and I'm certaily over that.
Other than that, I've never complained about anything done here. RCIA is phenominal!
Now just recently, I questioned the need for all of us older members, who are already certified, to have to be certified all over again in the near future. If you graduated from any school in 2009 and the graduation requirement changes in 2011 etc, you are not required to be retested or lose your diploma? Now, there may be optional classes that will help in schooling or here and that "added, needed knowledge" is here every day to be read by us all in the mant posts!
But even the need to be tested for certification all over again is not a real big deal.
I just think testing over and over and removing certification titles from those who earned them by whatever RCIA standards were in effect at the time is not professional looking. You said "Mostly we have gotten back complaints, but no solutions or help"
Well, I'm not complaining, I'm offering what I consider, in the case of certifications to be a solution or help. Otherwise, where does it ever end? Will a new certification system pop up again every few years, requiring retesting or the loss of your certification?
I was certified March 2009 in less than 2 years my certified title was removed, until I paid $100 [but I was not spoken to in advance, that it was going to happen?]
Now, from 2009 to { when is the new certification required? 2012 ? } say 2012 = 3 years, it's certification time again! no
Please don't take this post as a complaint, it's just my thinking on the matter.
I appreciate all the hard work those of you do who are running RCIA for us and I will always abide by RCIA decisions. I just have thought I'd like brought to the attention of the decision makers, that's all.
Thanks again!

If there is anything I can do, to help with the work load at RCIA, please let me know what it is - work as a moderator, instructor, etc? Just let me know what is required in time etc and I will gladly see what I am able to do!

Your fellow roof cleaner, Chuck
