So I treated a roof and 4 hours later the homeowner called me and said his wood trim and gutters are glowing neon green and my reply was ok buddy I will swing by in twenty and check it out. To my surprise he was correct and I was shocked.
He said his house trim and gutters was painted 2 weeks ago, so I called and the paint store they said it takes up to 60 days to fully cure. We are going to touch up the paint this week first chance I get!
Wow...I have never seen that happen before. I have cleaned one roof over fresh paint and washed plenty of freshly painted houses (post consruction) and never have had one single problem...that's just wierd...especially the color.
Same here Bob, Never seen anything like that. I take it they painted the gutters also. Looks like you had some run off going over the gutters. At least it was glowing your company colors. Kinda like a job signature. I DID THIS ROOF. So you think it was the specific brand of paint or did you get something in your solution that wasn't suppose to be there?
I have seen uncured paint change to funny colors from cleaning mixes. The neon green seems strange, but guess that's what it turned too. Uncured paint is the problem, too bad he didn't tell you about it before hand. Lot's of extra rinsing needed to be done.
I made the mix 50/50 because we had 3 jobs to do and a all day rain on its way, actually it started raining as we were treating this roof so It got a good rinse?
The homeowner has leftover paint and he said we were welcome to use it now we need a sunny day to touch it up. It could of been a lot worse I am not the most gracious shingle sprayer, all we have to touch up is 20 foot of gutter and the bottom of 5 corner posts.
It does match our company colors maybe I guess we could call it our signature mix.
I agree with Walk. I did a house wash yesterday and all the vinyl on the windows turned yellow/brown. I was freaking out trying to scrub it off with a pole brush. Turns out when it dried it went back to white.
im a painter also. i have never seen this. uncured paint will do funny things sometimes. i had my salesman out a few times on job where weird things were happening. they say just wait it out and let it cure. but i have never seen weird stuff happen with roof mixes and paint. sometimes you can wash it off. it just reacting funny. if its been 3 weeks or close to 4. it can take about 30 days to cure. so when you go over there you could try just breaking out the power washer and wash it but of course dont hold it close. sometime when weird things happens with the paint we will wait 30 days then power wash it and it looks good again.
this occurence happened to a client of ours who had just painted her front door. one of our "knuckleheads" was getting off a ladder from cleaning and accidently hit the trigger against the ladder and some SH happened on the door. We did not notice it; and then we gotthe call the next day, sure enough little light green spots where it appeaerd an accidental spray had occured. Apologized, she said ok, she re-painted the door and I gave her a $50 Visa card.

By chance was this your house? You know neon green company colors....you probably had the gutters that color to promote your company..just kidding. Sounds like your have a pretty reasonable customer. He didnt complain too bad did he?
Waited a week to see if the color would mysteriously come back but no luck. We called the homeowner and asked him to leave his paint out so we could stop by and touch up the neon green. To our surprise the paint was Sherwin Williams not Benjamin Moore. Everything is looking good now and we knocked off a hundred dollars for the inconvenience.
Yesterday we sold a job to a Sherwin Williams Michigan Rep and his whole house is painted with Duration and he dont like it, we can fix that with a whole house wash .
The one I was telling you about was Sherwin Williams too! Just paintd 3 weeks ago. Ill pos pictures tomorrow. This was quite a bit, so we are just going to pay her painter to repaint it. Its gonna be about $150 but I just dont have time. Its the wierdest thing I ever saw.
