Dawn 1 gallon?

Does anyone buy their Dawn in the 1 gallon size?  Sams Club carries it but I am just wondering what it costs. Online it's $15.18 and the shipping is included in that price. But does anyone know what it costs off the shelf?
I don't have a membership but I will get one if it's a decent deal. I know people wih a card, so I may just get someone to go with me.

Jeff, I will going to a Sam's Club tomorrow to check prices and to look at this protective rolled up matting that helps protect your truck or trailer from chemicals. i read about it on this forum a while back. i have a membership to bj's discount store and bought 90 oz. bottles of dawn for $7.77 each.  2 bottles would be 180 oz. for just over $15.00. compared to 128 oz.   i'll get back to with sam's club prices.

Thanks Rich. On the Univar thing, they told me this morning that each division can pick and choose who they sell to. But, you need to tell them you will be a regular customer,(Hopefully).............. that may get you in the door!!

That's a good deal.  I wonder if it is the same as the Ultra concentrated dawn, 90 oz bottle.  I've tried the 1 gallon professional dish detergent bottle with the pump on the top, it's not the same, it's not as thick and doesn't go as far.

mike......you are probably right, i have to check when i get home. i most likely bought the dawn original at that price. that also would explain why i did not get much lather or cling on a test run roof i did yesterday. being new to this, i'm glad i'm getting the bugs out now before i do an actual paying customer's roof. as far as the equipment i bought, everything worked great!

jeff.....i'll give univar another try, i may take a ride up there and introduce myself in person.......thanks again

I can't wait to hear Chris's results on the new Chlorine compatible surfactant.

It's less than HALF the cost of Dawn, $5/gallon !!

You and me both, Big Dog! I was telling a buddy about it today, and he gave me that look like he just didn't understand why I was excited. Only Professional Roof Cleaners can understand!

When in a pinch I refer to Wally Word(Walmart) Sams Club or Costco for bulk detergents. Looking forward to the results of the chlorine compatable surficant.

I bought a 3 pack of dawn at Sam`s thinking when you buy in bulk you would save, but then I went to Wal-Mart only to find out I would save $ 1.60 on all 3 of the same size. Then I tried to find 91% alcohol at Sam`s but all they sell is 70%. So the bottom line is that I get all my product except SH at 1 shop center Wally World. Kipp

The stability of sodium hypochlorite in the presence of surfactants

Milton J. Rosen1 Contact Information and Zhen Huo Zhu1

(1) Surfactant Research Institute, Brooklyn College, City University of New York, 11210 Brooklyn, New York

Received: 29 January 1992  Accepted: 5 May 1992

Abstract  Studies were made on the stability of NaOCl at 40°C in the presence of sodium alkanesulfonate or alkylarenesulfonate anionic surfactants, and in the presence of a nonionic surfactant,N-octylpyrrolidinone. The results were compared with NaOCl stability in the absence of additives and in the presence of nonsurfactant short-chain sodium alkylbenzenesulfonates. The data indicated that the rate of NaOCl loss is greatly dependent upon the pH of the solution, even at alkaline pHs. At initial pHs below 11, in the absence of additive, there is significant disproportionation of OCl− to ClO 3 − , accompanied by decrease in the pH of the solution, within a period of several days. Even at an initial pH of 11.3, in the presence of the surfactants investigated, there is significant disproportionation of OCl− and decrease in the pH of the solution in the first several days. When the initial pH of the solution is 13.5, there is no significant decrease in pH of the solution for at least two months in the presence of the surfactants studied. NaOCl stability in the presence of surfactant decreases in the order: sodium linear alkanesulfonate > sodium linear alkyldiphenylethersulfonate > sodium linear alkylbenzenesulfonate >>N-octylpyrrolidinone. Stability was greater in the presence of linear alkylarenesulfonates than in the presence of branched alkylarenesulfonates. It is suggested that the differences in stability observed are due to the greater ease of oxidation of tertiary carbon atoms compared to primary or secondary atoms.

Key words  Alkanesulfonate - alkylarenesulfonate - alkylbenzenesulfonate - alkyldiphenylethersulfonate - anionic surfactants - bleach stability -  N-octylpyrrolidinone - nonionic surfactant - sodium hypochlorite stability - stability

ALL that stuff is a Joke .
I mean Dawn, Joy, Ajax, ALL of it!
Yes, it "works", in a way, but it either EATS your SH up, or it eats the surfactant up, or BOTH !
THIS is what you REALLY need !
http://docs.pilotchemical.com/QMS/Technical_Bulletins/Calfax_Talk.pdf

I am gonna start a seperate thread about it,
But for those people pulling this thread up in a search, I want the info to be here biggrin

No, I meant the Dish Soap is a "Joke" biggrin
Sure, we have all used this stuff, but there are better surfactants we might use ?
This thread http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=123190&p=3&topicID=28112358 has more information about a promising new surfactant for roof cleaning.

I know that we no longer use dawn. We have now moved on to apple butter. But just for my knowledge why should the dawn not be antibacterial?
