biggrinMany of you who have been in the roof cleaning business, know the value of good equipment and the difference and no the aggravation ashamed used junk equipment and parts can make in our businesses.

Of course, many of us start out, myself included, with what we can afford.

But after a while and once we get a few jobs and a season or two under our belt we see the value in maximizing uptime and minimizing downtime.

On that note I have found that Apple Roof Cleaning (our Honorary Mr.Chris Tucker) has got a real edge with pioneering the AIR DIAPHRAGM PUMP for use in the Roof Cleaning industry.

I have been working with these pumps for the last year and started off with a used YAMADA 5 and eventually tried a used 15 and now have moved up to a Ingersoll-Rand ALL KYNAR ARO 1/2" pump  plus, I went a bit overkill and I also invested last season in a brand new MONSTER 1" KYNAR PUMP from YAMADA which has a maximum 49 GPM capacity and a 1" inlet and outlet which I have split into two 1" Hose Reels with 400ft. of 3/4" AG hose. The real bottleneck with both of these pumps has been air supply.

These BIG Air Diaphragm pumps require between 15-33 CFM on a consistant basis to work reliably along with at least a 15 but preferably a 30-60 gallon air storage tank.

I have spent all winter sourcing and experimenting with these pumps and on warmer days tested them, continually going back to the drawing board and doing the math and figuring out flow rates and orifice sizes and etc.

The problem with these BIG pumps is that they use a MASSIVE amount of air to operate correctly and not suffer from cavitation or pump lock where the pump actually locks up or stalls out from being STARVED for air because of inadequate Compressor CFM and a large enough tank to keep production up to a commercially acceptable level.

To this end I have been scouring the net and trying to find the best source for gas engine portable compressors with a large capacity tank and a low rpm level for longevity and a maximum CFM for my standards for use a COMMERCIALLY viable solution to the problems I have been experiencing.

I also hoped that if I found such a compressor, it would meet some of my other criteria such as the following:

1. It had to be primarily AMERICAN MADE with components sourced, manufactured and assembled in AMERICA by AMERICAN workers

2. It had to have a warranty that is second to none and the company that built it needed to prove that they can, will and do stand behind their product and if their was an issue with warranty or service, parts were readily available and easy to get and those replacement parts needed to be made in the USA by American workers.

3. That the company that I choose would be the type of company that I would be proud to recommend to my friends, family and other Roof Cleaning Professionals and not feel ashamed to speak highly of the companies integrity, history, warranty and longevity.

I finally feel I have found such a company and feel confident they will help other roof cleaners to maximize production and minimize down time and repairs by utilizing their compressors along with a good quality KYNAR and or Poly air diaphragm pump.

No longer should we as Professional Roof Cleaners be held hostage by inferior pumps made by other companies made to handle less corrosive cleaners but not truly up to the task of working consistently in our challenging environment and conditions.

Chris of Apple Roof Cleaning opened the minds of many a Roof Cleaner with exposing others to the possibility of a virtually maintenance free roof cleaning chemical delivery setup with the questions he asked "How can we improve and get better?" and the even tougher question, "How can we get that pesky, chemical love on the roof consistently, with minimal effort and without constant corrosion of pumps, packing and hose reel parts?".

Well, here's to you, my friend and mentor, Mr. Chris Tucker. My hat is off to you for sharing your valuable wisdom and pioneering spirit with me and with us all.

Well, Now that the cat's out of the bag on the reliablity and ease of use of the AIR DIAPHRAGM PUMPS, I believe we are all ready for the next step, and I believe what we all need now is the OTHER HALF of the missing link to the chemical delivery puzzzle which in my humble opinion is a RELIABLE, cost effective, GAS POWERED AIR COMPRESSOR with "Disks instead of Reeds" in the pump heads and Cast and not aluminum parts and real heavy duty forged rods, etc.

What I am talking about is a American made line of quality compressors to be proud to own that last and have a bulletproof design and industry leading warranty.

I don't know it this is the place to ask about changing out the oil drain plug on my Honda powered Easton monster.

I've purchased oil drain valves to make the job of changing oil easier thus more often.

My problem is that I'm unable to install the valves directly on the Honda engines because thay are sitting on mounting plates that do allow a valve to be installed. Honda's treads are 12mm. This is the problem. I'm unable to find 12 mm pipe nipples to bring the drain out to where I can install the valvea.  Also tried to find a 12mm pipe thread to hose barb but no luck.

I guess I'll have to go to Japan to find something that will work.

Does anyone have cheaper idea?
